Abstract:
A remote control method may include: sending a control privilege request message to a control privilege manager; receiving, by an agent, a control privilege response message corresponding to the control privilege request message; and transitioning from a passive mode during which the agent is remotely controlled by an external device to an active mode during which the agent remotely controls an external device.
Abstract:
Provided are a remote control system and method for controlling portable terminals. The remote control system includes a control terminal which is a portable terminal that performs a remote control operation, a target terminal which is a portable terminal that is subject to the remote control operation performed by the control terminal, and a remote control management server which determines whether the control terminal and the target terminal are heterogeneous, and if the two terminals are heterogeneous, converts messages respectively transmitted from the control terminal and the target terminal to a format conforming to corresponding receiving terminals.
Abstract:
An NFC-enabled electronic device and a method for operating the same are discussed. The method according to an embodiment includes performing, by the electronic device, tagging with a first external device to establish communication with the first external device; receiving, by the electronic device, at least one of device information and user information from the first external device through the communication; and transmitting, by the electronic device, a remote control signal to at least one second external device, based on the at least one of the device information and the user information.
Abstract:
A universal remote control system and method for employing a centralized database for programming the universal remote control (URC) to control the operation of appliance(s). The appliance(s) may or may not be made by different manufactures. The centralized database is accessible via the Internet and includes many different appliances made by many different manufacturers. The user may access a web site of the centralized database and manually enter electronic appliances identifying data that the URC is desired to operate, then the centralized database sends the appropriate command code data to the URC either directly or temporarily downloads them into a computer to be later loaded into the URC. The centralized database includes command codes for appliances such as TV sets, DVDs, CD systems, alarm clocks, and VCRs, music synthesizers, toys, stereo systems, ovens, washing machines, timers, power strips, and the like.
Abstract:
An apparatus in one embodiment is operable to receive, from a remote control device associated with a video display device, biometric input of a user. Responsive to a match of the biometric input with stored biometric data of the user, the user is authenticated. The remote control device and/or the video display device are then configured based on user settings associated with the stored biometric data of the user. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure.
Abstract:
Remote application of vehicle control settings includes detecting a vehicle in proximity of the mobile communication device, authenticating the vehicle via a secured pairing between an identifier of the vehicle and an identifier of the mobile communication device, retrieving driver preference settings assigned to the identifier of the vehicle and the identifier of the mobile communication device, and transmitting the driver preference settings to the vehicle.
Abstract:
A communications system includes a first and second device capable of transmitting and receiving RF communications; a controller for the first device capable of receiving or transmitting a code via a non-RF communication; a controller for the second device capable of receiving the code via a non-RF communication; and a processor for authenticating the first device for RF communication with the second device using the received code.
Abstract:
An electronic system and a method of controlling the same are provided. The electronic system has an electronic device and a remote controller. The electronic device has a storage unit for storing a first password. The remote controller is used to control the operations of the electronic device. When a switch module of the remote controller is pressed, the remote controller generates a power on signal. The power on signal has a power on command and a second password. When the first password and the second password are the same, the electronic device is permitted to complete a power on operation according to the power on command. Accordingly, the electronic system has an anti-theft function.
Abstract:
A method, apparatus, and computer program product for implementing remote control processes is provided. The method includes receiving a request to execute an operation on a target device via selection of a function key on a remote control device. The function key is associated with the operation and the target device that performs the operation for remotely controlling operation of the target device via a signal transmitted from the remote control device to the target device when the function key is selected. The method also includes approving the request to execute the operation when authorization has been secured, and transmitting the signal from the remote control device to the target device in response to the approval.
Abstract:
An intermediary between a remote control device and a remotely controllable device implements identification and/or authentication. The intermediary is, e.g., a node or set of nodes within a head end of a cable network service provider. A remote control device at a customer premise sends a command intended to control a remotely controllably device which is also located at the same customer premise. The customer premise includes a network interface, e.g., a cable modem, which has associated identification information. The command and the associated network interface identification information are communicated to the intermediary, e.g., via a cable modem. The intermediary accesses a subscriber record corresponding to the location based on the network interface identification information. The intermediary identifies the device to be controlled, e.g., a particular set top box and/or authenticates the remote control device. A command is sent via the network to the device to be controlled.
