Abstract: Turbine fuel provided for large-scale land based turbines used by utilities for producing electricity and desalinated water, and for large mobile engines and turbines in marine and remote applications where only liquid fuels are available. Use results in less corrosion, ash formation and emissions (NOx, SOx, CO2 and noxious metals) than firing contaminated heavy crude, refinery residual oils or high sulfur fuel oils. Manufacture is by decontaminating crude oils, non-conventional crudes, and other highly contaminated feeds. Each fuel is produced as a single product of unit operations, not ex-plant blend of various refinery products, yet using an apparatus configuration less complex than conventional crude oil refining. These fuels can be fired by advanced high efficiency turbines of combined cycle power plants having hot flow paths and heat recovery steam generation systems susceptible to corrosion, which systems cannot otherwise risk contaminated heavy crudes or refinery residual oils feeds.

Abstract: An inert gas generating system includes a source of a liquid hydrocarbon fuel, and a fractioning unit configured to receive a portion of the liquid hydrocarbon fuel from the source. The fractioning unit includes a perm-selective membrane configured to separate the portion of the liquid hydrocarbon fuel into substantially sulfur-free vapors and a sulfur-containing remainder. The system further includes a catalytic oxidation unit configured to receive and react the substantially sulfur-free vapors to produce an inert gas.

Abstract: The device for the continuous processing of used or otherwise degraded tires consists of a reactor (1) for the thermal decomposition of these waste tires into the organic decomposition products in the form of low molecular hydrocarbons, and residual inorganic waste shares. In the upper part of the reactor (1) there is created a filling chamber (2) with a pair of filling closures (3) for filling its internal space by the waste tires and in the bottom part of the reactor (1) there is formed the output chamber (8) of the residual inorganic shares with a pair of output closures (9), while in the lower part of the reactor (1) there are arranged the nozzles (5) for generating of a mild gaseous inert medium by oxidation of unreacted residues of organic matter from the processed tires. In the upper part of the inner space of the reactor (1) under the filling chamber (2) is then created at least one output opening (11) of this inert gas media, which, together with the therein dispersed organic decomposed products in the form of aerosol, is led through the separator (12) of solid particles and a cooler (17) into a separator (10) of liquid particles from the cooled aerosol which is equipped with the first end output (21) of the liquid particles into the tank (22) and, second, between-operating output (23) of the gaseous particles, which are led to the direct energy use by combustion in thermal machines or in a convenient implementation they are driven Into the freezing chamber (24) for the separation of gases with a condensing temperature above the temperature in this chamber. From freezing chamber (24) there is ended up the second end output (25) of one part in it non-condensed gases and the third end output (26) of the remaining part in it non-condensed gases.

Abstract: A process for making high density fuels having the potential to increase the range and/or loiter time of Navy platforms. Derivation of these fuels from a sustainable source will decrease the carbon footprint of the Department of Defense (DoD) and reduce reliance on nonsustainable petroleum sources. Fuels based on longifolene have volumetric net heats of combustion up to 17% higher than conventional Navy jet fuel (JP-5). Moreover, longifolene can be generated from sustainable biomass sugars via fermentation.

Abstract: The present technology provides compositions that include at least about 98 weight percent (wt. %) n-paraffins which, among other surprising features, may be suitable for use as a diesel fuel, an aviation fuel, a jet fuel blendstock, a blendstock to reduce the cloud point of a diesel fuel, a fuel for portable heaters, and/or as a charcoal lighter fluid. The composition includes at least 98 wt. % C7-C12 n-paraffins, where at least 10 wt. % of composition includes n-decane, at least 20 wt. % of the composition includes n-dodecane, and at least 75 wt. % of the composition includes even carbon number paraffins. The composition also includes less than 0.1 wt. % oxygenates and less than 0.1 wt. % aromatics. The composition may be produced by a process that includes hydrotreating a biorenewable feedstock comprising at least one of palm kernel oil, coconut oil, babassu oil, microbial oil, or algal oil.

Abstract: Compositions corresponding to marine diesel fuels, fuel oils, jet fuels, and/or blending components thereof are provided that include at least a portion of a natural gas condensate fraction. Natural gas condensate fractions derived from a natural gas condensate with sufficiently low API gravity can provide a source of low sulfur, low pour point blend stock for formation of marine diesel and/or fuel oil fractions. Natural gas condensate fractions can provide these advantages and/or other advantages without requiring prior hydroprocessing and/or cracking.
