Abstract: A replaceable water filter includes a filter assembly having a filter structure with first, second, and third filtering elements sharing a common axis, the first filtering element for removing and/or reducing particulate contaminants in the water, the second filtering element for removing and/or reducing particulate and organic contaminants in the water and the third filtering element for removing and/or reducing at least one of fluoride and arsenic in the water. The filter further includes a housing that contains the filter assembly. The housing includes a first end adapted to removably attach the filter to a filter mount of the refrigerator where the filter communicates with the water supply of the refrigerator. The first filtering element can be fabric, the second filtering element can be a carbon block, and the third filtering element can be activated alumina.

Abstract: The invention relates to the field of electrochemical production of disinfectants, where a solution of alkaline metals is used as the electrolyte in the anode chamber. The invention offers a new design for electrolyzers, reducing power consumption in the production of disinfectants by known methods. As a result of this invention, power consumed in the production of 1 gram of active chlorine by known methods will be reduced by 20%, and the possibilities for producing disinfectants with active chlorine content 7500 ppm in an electrolyzer without channelling the water into external cooling devices will also expand.

Abstract: An ion-exchange equipment includes a tank unit formed with a cooling liquid flow-in port and a cooling liquid flow-out port and provided therein with an ion-exchange chamber, and an ion-exchange resin in form of particles filling the ion-exchange chamber of the tank unit. The ion-exchange chamber is provided so as to extend along an axial direction of the tank unit and the ion-exchange chamber has a circular cross section taken perpendicularly to the axial direction of the tank unit, and the cooling liquid flow-in port is formed so as to extend in a tangential direction of the ion-exchange chamber.

The heating element is situated within the tank and includes a first electrode and a second electrode. The insulating element is positioned between the first electrode and the second electrode. As such, powering the heating element directs an electric current through the fluid within the tank for heating the fluid, while the insulating element provides electrical and thermal insulation to the outer wall of the tank.

Abstract: A desalination system comprises a silica removal unit. The silica removal unit comprises first and second electrodes, a plurality of ion exchange membranes disposed between the first and second electrodes and a plurality of spacers disposed between adjacent ion exchange membranes and between the first and second electrodes and the respective ion exchange membranes. The plurality of the ion exchange membranes comprises a pair of cation exchange membranes and a pair of anion exchange membranes disposed between the pair of cation exchange membranes. A first channel is defined between the anion exchange membranes and second and third channels are defined between each anion exchange membrane and an adjacent cation exchange membrane. A silica removal apparatus and a desalination method are also presented.

Abstract: Exemplary electrolytic methods are disclosed relating to preparation of useful products, e.g., disinfectants, from aqueous solutions of electrolytes. Disinfectant production with a capacity of a single electrolyzer may amount to 1200 liters per hour and up to 600 grams of active chlorine per hour by utilizing 3-7 gram sodium chloride (NaCl) for the production of 1 gram of active chlorine on the basis of a reliable and safe hydraulic structure. A fresh water supply may initially be directed into an internal tubular cathode chamber for cathode cooling purposes, before the participation in final disinfectant production process. A coolable cathode may increase the hold-up time of the electrolyte in the electrode chamber without application of circulation circuits, improving significantly the efficiency of sodium chloride utilization. The simplicity of the method makes it possible to increase both the productivity of a single electrolyzer and the efficiency of the process.
