Abstract:
Method and apparatus for remote peripheral software installation. A software system running in a local computer system used by a system administrator can install drivers, network utilities, and other peripheral software on a remote system connected to a network. The software system gathers system information from the remote system including the locations and names of system files. The software system also provides for the stopping and restarting of services which are associated with the peripheral software. In this way, installation can be completed without rebooting, or otherwise disrupting the operation of the remote system. Additionally, no special software is needed on the remote system, and no user need be logged into the remote system.
Abstract:
A personal computer holds data of a plurality of types in a content storage unit and transfers items of data related across the types of data to a digital camera as group data. The digital camera stores the group data, which is received from the personal computer, in a content memory unit.
Abstract:
A method triggers a printer (106) to receive a trigger to initiate an embedding algorithm (220), receive the print data (228); read the printer configuration data (230); encode the configuration data (230); insert the configuration data (230) into the print data (228); send the print data (228) to a printhead (206); and print the data. The printed data is then scanned, run through analysis software, and the embedded data is returned. The embedded data can then be used to diagnose printer problems or as a digital notary.
Abstract:
A digital camera has a memory for recording function and environment of the camera upon every use thereof, or delivery of the camera to users. The memory is kept without deletion to be a history of the camera. The memory cannot be used by the user, but is take out of the camera upon its recycle for transferring the memory to a database or to a site of designing new cameras. The memory should be taken out on the authorization of the user. If the memory includes name, address, custom settings, user contract, password, or the like, such memory may be transferred to a new camera of the same user on demand. Used camera can be conveniently returned at a site where commodities irrelevant to cameras are sold, which may prevent illegal disposal of cameras.
Abstract:
The present invention is to allow display based on the setting positions of devices in selection of a desired device to be used, and facilitate selection considering the setting positions of the devices. The present invention can also display equipments so as to allow discrimination between an equipment included in an image processing apparatus and an equipment connected on a communication line. Equipments in a network environment are placed on the first floor (1F), the second floor (2F), and the third floor (3F) in a building and connected through a network (LAN 1300). For example, a computer (1310) collects device information including status information and setting position information from usable input/output devices. For example, status information representing nullBUSYnull and setting position information representing null3F-B blocknull are transferred from a virtual optical scanner (1302). The computer (1310) displays the connected input/output devices together with the setting position information obtained from the devices. An image processing apparatus (100) has various input/output devices including a reader unit (1), a printer unit (2), and an image input/output control unit (3). In addition, various input/output equipments (two optical scanner devices (1302, 1303) and three facsimile transmission/reception devices (1305, 1306, 1307)) are connected to the image processing apparatus (100) through a LAN interface unit (9) and the LAN (1300). A CPU (123) of a core unit (10) manages the input/output equipments to determine whether they are connected through the network. When a desired input/output equipment is to be selected, whether the input/output equipments are connected through the network is explicitly indicated.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, raster image data of an image including pixel intensity, pixel color, or the like, can be varied slightly to encode color profile data within the image without significantly altering the visual appearance of the image. The encoded data may represent color profile data for a source device, and can be extracted by a destination device for use in performing color transformations for improved color image accuracy.
Abstract:
An image is digitally watermarked to convey position data about the subject of the image, such as latitude, longitude and elevation of a point depicted therein. Additional information, e.g., about camera attributes, camera angle, and 3D warp-characterizing polynomial coefficients, can also be included.
Abstract:
The technique of the present invention ensures output of an image subjected to image processing, which does not depend upon the output environment but reflects the color reproduction characteristics of a shooting device and the intention of a photographer in shooting. The process generates an image file that includes picture data generated by a digital still camera, as well as control data and output specification information attached thereto. The control data controls the details of image processing according to the color reproduction characteristics of the camera and the intention of the photographer in shooting. The output specification information specifies, for example, the address of a printing device used as an output resource, the type of printing paper used for printing, and the number of copies. The image file is transmitted to an image processing system on a network. The image processing system carries out image processing of the picture data based on the control data, generates an output file, and transmits the output file to an specified output device via the network. Even in the environment that can not perform image processing based on the control data, the arrangement of the invention ensures output of the image that has been subjected to such image processing.
Abstract:
An image data outputting apparatus and method form satisfactory images regardless of characteristics of an image forming apparatus by outputting copy forgery preventing image data for preventing copy-based forgery to the image forming apparatus. For example, a recording medium outputting system is constructed by connecting a LAN having a DB server managing transmission/reception of data to/from a database in the city office, and many LANs each having a terminal and a printer installed in a convenience store via a communication line and the Internet. Document data of a certificate is retrieved from the database in the city office by operating a terminal in a store, the retrieved document data is merged with copy forgery preventing image data corresponding to characteristics of a printer in the same store, and the merged data is outputted from the printer.
Abstract:
A process of servicing information in a facsimile system having an automatic answering function includes: forming a speech path upon detection of an incoming call from a caller via a telephone line; automatically sending an answering message to the caller to inform the caller available options including to record a voice message in the facsimile system, to transmit a facsimile message to the facsimile system and to receive a variety items of service information stored in the facsimile system in accordance with an information select code; and automatically sending a selected service information to the caller via a remote communication system, when the caller inputs a password after the information select code corresponding to the selected service information is input via the remote communication system.
