Abstract:
A walking assistance device configured to permit the independent movement of an individual via simulated weight reduction is described. The device is configured to partially suspend a portion of a user's weight via a seat-lifting system, facilitating the movement of a user with experiencing difficulty walking without assistance. The system of the device preferably employs a seat, a hydraulic or electric seat-lift mechanism, a seat restraint, a frame, wheels, a brake system, and a power source. The seat-lift mechanism is configured to rise and lower the seat, enabling the user to control the percentage of weight lifted, while the feet of the user remain in partial contact with the floor. The frame forms the structure and support of the device, and is configured to move laterally via wheels on the bottom of the frame of the device.
Abstract:
A tubular crutch including a tubular crutch body, a cantilever handle and a ground engaging extension is described. The cantilever handle includes a curved base plate, a plurality of bolts, a tubular member, a plurality of locking nuts, a key, and a contoured component. The tubular crutch also includes a ground engaging extension with a spring loaded button that is received at the bottom of the tubular elongated member. The tubular crutch body includes a tubular posterior stabilizing element, a first concave curve adjacent to the posterior stabilizing element, a second convex curve proximate to the first concave curve, a third concave curve proximate to the second convex curve and a tubular elongated portion adjacent to the third concave curve.
Abstract:
A walker standing aid accessory package consists of a lower attachment and an upper attachment. The lower foot bar piece allows the caregiver to utilize body weight to pin the walker's front legs to the floor or ground surface securely. The upper part incorporates multiple hand placement stabilization choices for both the patient and the caregiver. This invention increases patient's self help and reduces most of the caregiver's exertion. Once the patient is standing upright, the caregiver may step aside and monitor said patients immediate ambulation. The accessory package converts an existing walker into a device that not only helps the patient to stand but also reduces the strain on the caregiver. The walker with the accessories installed offers no interference or compromise to the existing walker's integrity, mobility or storage.
Abstract:
In some embodiments, a kit may include systems allowing for clearing a biological airway. The kit may include an inner wearable system worn, during use, on a torso of a subject. The kit may include a plurality of engines which when activated apply an oscillation force to at least one treatment area of the subject. At least one of the plurality of engines may be releasably couplable to the inner wearable system. The oscillation force may be applied to at least one of the treatment areas of the subject such that the oscillation force mobilizes, during use, at least some secretions in an airway within the subject at least adjacent the treatment area. The kit may include an outer wearable system worn, during use, on a torso of a subject which when activated, adjusts the oscillation force. The kit may include one or more batteries and/or a control unit.
Abstract:
An adjustable air bladder apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes an outer enclosure, a first interior section within the outer enclosure that contains a plurality of air bladders, a second interior section within the outer enclosure that contains a support layer, and an air pump pneumatically coupled to the plurality of air bladders, where the air pump is configured to selectively supply pressurized air to the air bladders independently through a pneumatic coupling. The pneumatic coupling includes one or more supply valves, outlet valves, and pressure sensors coupled to each air bladder or to one or more groupings of air bladders. A control device is provided for monitoring the pressure within the air bladders and for controlling an amount of air provided to or released from the bladders or groupings of bladders. A method of providing rolling massage with the apparatus is also disclosed.
Abstract:
An elevation device used in the performance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and after resuscitation includes a base and an upper support operably coupled to the base. The upper support is configured to elevate an individual's upper back, shoulders and head. The elevation device also includes a chest compression device coupled with the base. The chest compression device is configured to compress the chest and to actively decompress the chest.
Abstract:
An apparatus having an upper frame adapted to at least partially encircle a person and including a lower frame and two double scissor mechanisms for coupling the upper frame to the lower frame, wherein the distance between the upper frame and the lower frame can be varied by adjusting the double scissor mechanisms, and the walker is raised or lowered. Scissor lift assemblies housed in the lower frame, each powered by a motor or compressor, raise and lower each double scissor mechanism.
Abstract:
The Compact Cantilevered Ambulatory Assistive Device is intended to give physical support to persons having diminished abilities to walk, stand from a sitting position or to be seated from a standing position or maintain their balance. The design of the Compact Cantilevered Ambulatory Assistive Device supplies an upward force to the user through the Elongated Cantilevered Handles when transitioning from a sitting position to standing and provides stable support to the user when going from standing to a sitting position. The device maintains a stable support for the user by keeping the center of gravity of the device below the center of mass of the user, while walking, standing or transitioning from standing to sitting or from sitting to standing through the incorporation of cantilevered multi-wheeled bogie assemblies with the of the device's vertical support frames, the bogie assembly wheels being of such small diameters as to move without impediment under obstructions such as furniture, fixtures or seating.
Abstract:
A lumbar decompression device may include one or more bases that support one or more uprights with a plurality of upper support members and a plurality of lower support members. The upper support members are configured to engage with a user's upper body and support a user's body weight. The one or more uprights are positioned laterally from the upper support members such that the user may perform a variety of movements of their lower body without contacting the one or more uprights.
Abstract:
A self-operated, or therapist assisted, apparatus particularly adapted for massaging a user's body parts affected by repetitive strain injuries such as tendinitis and carpal tunnel syndrome, comprises two clamping arms joined at a base end and provided with an opening at the other end. Flexible massaging members are mounted on opposite medial sections of the arms. A body part may be placed between the two arms of the device to be acted upon by the massaging members, whereby the body part is adjustably clamped between the pair of massaging members and massaged by translating and rotating movements of the body part along an axis perpendicular to the mounting axes of the massaging members. Alternatively, one of the arms of the apparatus may be separated from the apparatus and used independently to massage body parts that otherwise would not fit between the arms of the apparatus.
