Abstract:
A system for removing resin from the stator core of a stator of a motor involves means for removing resin (1) from an inner circumferential surface surrounding the bore of the stator core; (2) from the outer circumferential surface of the stator core; and (3) from between the windings along the end surfaces of the stator core. The circumferential surfaces have resin removed from them by moving the surfaces relative to a series of wipers. The wipers push the resin off the surfaces as they sweep the surfaces. Resin is removed from the end surfaces by blowing the resin radially inward, where it either drips off the core or is deposited on the inner circumferential surface, from which it is removed by wipers.
Abstract:
A sensor and a method for determining the basis weight of a coating material containing CaCO.sub.3 on a substrate is described. The determined basis weight is insensitive to changes in the amount of substrate material underlying the coating. Signals from the sensor may be used in the control of a coating mechanism to provide a coating having a uniform basis weight.
Abstract:
The present invention includes novel barrier webs that have certain desirable physical qualities such as water resistance, increased durability, improved barrier qualities and the like. The present invention further comprises a barrier web comprising a web that has been treated with a curable shear thinned thixotropic polymer composition, the fabric being adapted to be substantially impermeable to liquids, permeable to gases and impermeable to microorganisms. The barrier webs of the present invention are either impermeable to all microorganisms or are impermeable to microorganisms of certain sizes. The present invention also includes fabrics that are capable of either selective binding certain microorganisms, particles or molecules depending upon what binding partners are incorporated into the polymer before application to the fabric.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods for the controlled placement of a curable, shear thinnable polymer composition into a porous web. The controlled placement is performed by applying tension to the porous web. The polymer composition is applied onto a surface of the web. The composition is shear thinned sufficiently to reduce its viscosity and selectively place it into the tensioned web to encapsulate at least some of the structural elements of the web, leaving most of the interstitial spaces of the porous web open. The invention also relates to methods for selectively placing the polymer composition in a substantially continuous region extending through the web so that the polymer composition fills the interstitial spaces and adheres adjacent structural elements in the region. In the areas in the web above and below the filled region, at least some of the structural elements are encapsulated and most of the interstitial spaces are open. The invention also relates to methods for the controlled placement of a polymer composition into a tensioned porous substrate having a matrix of open cells by applying a localized shear force to selectively distribute a curable, shear thinnable polymer composition within the substrate, at least partially individually lining the cell walls of at least some of the cells, and leaving most of the cells open.
Abstract:
A rotating cup type liquid supply device comprises an inner cup 3, a vacuum chuck 5 disposed in the center of a bottom surface of the inner cup 3 for holding thereon a planar material W to be treated, and a tray 7 fixed onto the bottom surface of the inner cup 3 for substantially surrounding the planar material W held by the vacuum chuck 5. The tray is of a substantially rectangular shape in plan view and includes an tapered wall portion 9 turned inwardly along a circumferential wall portion thereof for defining an upper opening 8 of the tray 7. The tray 7 further includes a plurality of drain guiding conduits 10 each extending at a predetermined angle outwardly from an outer peripheral portion thereof. Also, the tray can be provided thereon with the cover having an opening slightly larger than the planar material W.
Abstract:
Products and methods for controlling the porosity and permeation of a web are provided using a curable thixotropic shear thinnable polymer composition that preferably encapsulates a plurality of fibers of the web and/or forms an internal layer within the web. Webs suitable for several different uses are featured, for example medical garments resistant to permeation by a virus or bacteria. The effective pore size of the web is controlled by regulating various factors such as the thickness of the polymer composition encapsulating the fibers and the thickness and placement of the internal polymer layer. Other factors include the polymer density, structure, and crosslinking orientation, as well as the diffusion, permeation and sorption of the polymer.

Abstract:
An apparatus for controlling thickness of a coated film of paint on a continuously moving sheet member. A paint in a paint pan is picked up through a gap h.sub.PA formed between a pickup roll and an applicator roll, part of the paint is attached to the applicator roll and delivered to a sheet as a supply flow rate q.sub.A. The film thickness coated on the sheet is controlled in accordance with a model equation: M={(q.sub.A -q.sub.L)'.gamma.'C}/LS which has evaluated a difference between the supply flow rate q.sub.A and a leak flow rate q.sub.L not transferred onto the sheet, remaining on the applicator roll and escaping through a gap h.sub.AS (.XI. is the specific gravity of the paint, C the concentration of a solid content of the paint and LS a moving speed of the sheet).
Abstract:
A continuous strip coating machine has top and bottom applicator rolls and a backup roll adjacent the top applicator roll. A lift roll to lift the strip of material and thus vary the angle of wrap of the strip about the bottom applicator roll is provided. The use of the lift roll in turn varies the pressure between the strip and the roll and thus the thickness of the coating applied to the strip bottom. Thickness may be measured indirectly by measuring pressure of the strip on the applicator roll. Thickness may also be measured directly. Oscillations of the strip in a drying oven may also be sensed and compensated for. Feedback control is used with the thickness measuring techniques to control the coating thickness by varying angle of wrap, relative speed between the applicator roll and strip, and/or nip pressure between the applicator roll and a transfer roll that transfers coating material to the applicator roll.
Abstract:
A coating system for applying to a face of a moving continuous web a coating of predetermined thickness of a liquid coating composition, thereafter drying the thus-coated web under substantially constant drying condition, and collecting the dried coated web on a take-up roll, is provided with an arrangement for removing from the coating any portions exceeding the predetermined thickness which would not be completely dried during drying and would adhere to and contaminate surfaces coming in contact therewith, such as guide roller surfaces or the adjacent windings on the take-up roll. The arrangement includes web wiping means for contacting excessively thick regions of the coating which is adapted to be displaced from an inoperative position remote from the web to an operative position contacting the excessively thick regions of the coating, the displacement being actuated in response to the detection on the web of excessively thick coating regions. The web wiping means is driven in its operative position in a continuous, e.g. circular, path having a locus intersecting the web path and preferably is a cylindrical brush of flexible bristles. The removed coating portions may be cleaned from the wiping means e.g. by a scraper and aspirated away by suction.
