Abstract:
Cyclic acetal derivative of a resole includes the reaction product of an ortho resole compound with a carbonyl compound or a carbonyl compound derivative. The cyclic acetal derivatives of phenolic resole compounds exhibit enhanced storage stability and can be readily activated at elevated temperatures to prepare phenolic based adhesives and coatings.
Abstract:
A polymerized microemulsion pressure sensitive adhesive composition is described. The composition has peel adhesion of at least 3 Newtons/ 100 mm as measured according to a PSTC-1 Test. The composition preferably has a bicontinuous structure of a continuous phase of a hydrophobic pressure sensitive adhesive polymer and a continuous phase of a hydrophilic polymer. The bulk properties of both polymers are retained in the bicontinuous structure. The composition is prepared from a microemulsion comprising a free-radically ethylenically unsaturated polar amphiphilic or hydrophilic monomer or oligomer in the aqueous phase, a free-radically ethylenically unsaturated hydrophobic monomer, having a glass transition temperature suitable for forming a pressure sensitive adhesive, in the oil phase, water, and surfactant. Uses for the pressure sensitive adhesive composition include biomedical articles, such as biomedical electrodes, medical skin coverings, and pharmaceutical delivery devices, and industrial articles, such as zinc/adhesive tapes used for cathodic protection of rebars embedded in concrete.
Abstract:
Inorganic material particles are dispersed in an aqueous medium with surface charge adjusting additives to give a moderately stable slurry or pigment grind. The dispersion can be used to prepare fully formulated compositions. Products formulated using the aqueous dispersion can be prepared to give the same performance as products including inorganic material dispersed with conventional polyelectrolyte pigment dispersants, but with higher levels of inorganic material, or superior performance properties with like levels of inorganic material.
Abstract:
Aqueous polymer compositions which contain a polymer having ureido groups and a polyaldehyde compound are suitable for the production of coatings having high adhesion to substrate and having high cohesion.
Abstract:
A low VOC curable water-based coating composition is provided. The composition includes a urethane/acrylic copolymer having a Tg of greater than about 50.degree. C., a polyoxyethylene aryl ether plasticizer, an alkaline-stable crosslinker, and water, wherein the curable water-based coating composition includes less than about 5 wt-% volatile organic compounds, based on the total weight of the composition.
Abstract:
A tape for adhering to rough surfaces in which an adhesive layer is adhered to a backing in a manner to allow discontinuities of adhesion between the backing and the adhesive layer. The backing is deformable and recoverable to form a generally smooth surface.
Abstract:
Blocking is substantially reduced between individual sheets having a thermal adhesive coated thereon by including a release agent with the thermal adhesive. Preferred release agents are materials which have previously been used as low-adhesion backsize (LAB) coatings in pressure-sensitive adhesive applications.
Abstract:
Adhesive film strip for an adhesive bond which can be separated again by pulling on the strip in the direction of the bond plane, character in that the bond area decreases at one end of the adhesive film strip, while the other end serves as tab for pulling.
Abstract:
A storage/dispensing assembly, e.g., a roll or stack, of loop fastener material such as is used in hook and loop fastening system comprising one or more multilayer sheets of loop fastener material arranged such that the adhesive layer of an overlying portion of the loop fastener material is in direct contact with the loop layer of an underlying portion of the loop fastener material. The loops are such that, when the overlying portion of the loop fastener material is removed from the assembly, the loops of the underlying portion are presented in an engagable state. Also, a method for dispensing such loop material from such assemblies such that as the adhesive layer of the overlying portion is separated from the loops of the underlying portion, the loops of the underlying portion are presented in an engagable state.
Abstract:
An electrically conductive adhesive is described that is made of a porous substrate having numerous passages extending through it. The walls of the substrate defining the passages are plated with a conductive metal. This provides a continuous plating from one side of the porous substrate to the other. The remaining passage volume is substantially filled with an adhesive resin. The adhesive can be used to electrically connect two metal surfaces.
