Abstract:
In-situ calibration of an interferometer includes making a sequence of phase measurements of a test object using the interferometer, each of the measurements having a same carrier fringe frequency, where at least some of the measurements are made at three or more different orientations of carrier fringes, and determining information about the test object based on at least some of the phase measurements, in which determining the information includes reducing errors in the measurements arising from imperfections in the interferometer based on the measurements made at the three or more different orientations.
Abstract:
A fiber optic transducer is provided. The fiber optic transducer includes a fixed portion configured to be secured to a body of interest, a moveable portion having a range of motion with respect to the fixed portion, a spring positioned between the fixed portion and the moveable portion, and a length of fiber wound between the fixed portion and the moveable portion. The length of fiber spans the spring. The fiber optic transducer also includes a mass engaged with the moveable portion. In one disclosed aspect of the transducer, the mass envelopes the moveable portion.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are presented for modulating a beam of radiation, such that the modulated beam exhibits substantially null residual amplitude modulation (RAM). An electro-optical modulator is presented that includes a waveguide, a first region associated with the waveguide and a second region associated with the waveguide. The waveguide is designed to guide a beam of radiation. A first electric potential applied to the first region causes a first modulation to the beam of radiation while a second electric potential applied to the second region causes a second modulation to the beam of radiation. The first modulation combined with the second modulation provides substantially null residual amplitude modulation of the beam of radiation.
Abstract:
Provided is a phase shift interferometer which comprises: a light source; an incident light path; a light circulation unit; a connection path; a light splitting/combining unit; a probe light path; a reference light path; a test sample measurement unit; a light terminal; a light-phase shifting unit which is provided in either the probe light path or the reference light path, and subjects light to phase shifting by a phase shift quantity of αi/2 (radian units, where αi is a real number, the range of values taken by αi is 0≦αi≦3π/2, and i is an integer where 3≦i), and periodically changes the phase shift quantity of αi/2; a light-emission path; a light detector which outputs an interference signal; and a controller for controlling the phase shift quantity in the light-phase shifting unit and the cycle at which the phase shift is controlled.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an apparatus for generating a scannable optical delay for a beam of light and an apparatus for Fourier domain optical coherence tomography having said apparatus for generating a scannable optical delay in its reference arm (15). The light beam is directed to a pivotably driven mirror (10) from where it is reflected to a fixed mirror (12), and from there back retro reflected along the reference arm (5). Lens optics (9) are provided to ensure accurate optical alignment in several pivot positions of the pivotably driven mirror (10).

Abstract:
An optical imaging method is provided that can realize, at low cost, the extension of the imaging depth range. An optical imaging apparatus 400 is an apparatus that forms a tomographic image of an object using FD-OCT, and performs a scanning step, detection step and imaging step. In the scanning step, the object is scanned with a signal light while alternately changing the phase difference between the signal light and a reference light to two preset phase differences. In the detection step, interference light of the signal light passing through the object and the reference light is detected. In the imaging step, a tomographic image of the object is formed based on the detection results of a plurality of the interference lights sequentially obtained in the detection step according to the scanning.
