Abstract: An electronic device may be provided with a display mounted in a housing. The display may have an array of pixels that form an active area and may have an inactive area that runs along an edge of the active area. A color ambient light sensor may gather ambient light measurements through a window in an opaque masking layer in the inactive area. The color ambient light sensor may have photodiodes with different spectral sensitivities and may have a dark current photodiode that is insensitive to light. A set of analog-to-digital converters may be used to digitize photodiode signals from the photodiodes. A switch array may be used to distribute signals from the photodiodes to each of the analog-to-digital converters. This allows the output of each photodiode to be averaged over multiple analog-to-digital converters to remove any impact of variations in performance between converters.

Abstract: A low-voltage alternating current-based LED light with built-in cooling and automatic or manual dimming. As it is self-cooled with fan failure protection, the light can be safely run in conditions that are near-hostile to its operation, with little possibility of damage. The light is movable along the XY axes of a grid system and can be either fixed in position in the Z axis or can be movable up and down the Z axis. The light can be equipped with either manual dimming using a standard potentiometer, or with automatic dimming via sensors and local network connectivity. The device prevents line-voltage electric shocks as the input voltage is low-voltage AC; in embodiments, about the same voltage as a doorbell, and the input current is 3 A. The device is also self-cooled, and will shut down if its fan is not running so as to prevent thermal overloads.

Abstract: A self-balancing optical position sensitive detector includes a pair of spaced apart, parallel, longitudinally extending doped regions on a first surface on a front side of a substrate 16 of opposite doping type with contact pads on the front side at respective ends of a first doped region of the pair. A voltage source applies a potential difference between the contact pads of the first doped region. On the front side, a contact pad of the second doped region of the pair provides an analog output signal representative of a longitudinal position of a center of gravity of an incident light pattern along the doped regions without external circuitry processing the output signal to obtain a readout of the longitudinal position. A resistive line may directly overly, abut and be in contact with at least a portion of the first doped region. A conductive line may directly overly, abut and be in contact with at least a portion of the second doped region. No backside contact or processing of the substrate is required or employed.

Abstract: A housing of an electronic device may operate as an antenna while being partly insulated to prevent the degradation of antenna radiation efficiency. The electronic device may include a housing, a display, at least one sensor, and at least one processor. The housing may include a first surface, a second surface opposite to the first surface, and a side surface enclosing at least part of a space between the first and second surfaces. The side surface may include an elongated first member that is formed of an opaque material, and at least one second member dividing the first member into at least two segments and formed of a light-transmittable material. The at least one sensor may be located in the space adjacent to the at least one second member and oriented to detect incident light received through the at least one second member.
