Abstract: An information processing apparatus operable to perform colorimetry using a colorimeter that performs colorimetry of a colorimetric target based on reflected light obtained by irradiating illumination light onto the colorimetric target. The information processing apparatus loads a control program of a connected colorimeter before confirming a colorimeter to be used for colorimetry, executes the control program and receives an operation event of an operation performed on the connected colorimeter, and in response to the operation event, controls so as to confirm the colorimeter as a colorimeter to be used, or cause the colorimeter to wait until usage preparation, or confirm the colorimeter as a colorimeter to be used and request execution of calibration.

Abstract: A method for determining a greyness level of a strand of hair and a system adapted to implement this method are provided. First, an image of the strand of hair representing it according to a predefined representation standard is obtained. The image comprises a portion representing the strand of hair with pixels. Then, for each pixel of the portion, a luminance value is determined. After that an amount of pixels in the portion for which the determined luminance value is above a threshold luminance value is determined. Finally, the greyness level of the strand of hair is determined by estimating a ratio of the determined amount of pixels over a total amount of pixels in the portion.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes circuitry that acquires a colorimetric value for each of a plurality of patches on a first chart printed out by an image forming apparatus and read by a colorimeter. Each of the patches has a monochromatic color. The circuitry further acquires a maximum tone value previously set in accordance with a sheet, and converts each of the colorimetric value, the maximum tone value, and a color system value of a first target into a particular color value. The first target represents an ideal characteristic of the color system value corresponding to a tone value. The circuitry further determines, as a second target, a characteristic passing through a point determined by a color value corresponding to the maximum tone value. The characteristic is generated based on the color system value of the first target converted into the particular color value.
