Abstract:
A high vacuum component, e.g. a vacuum chamber wall or a component that is operated or positioned within a vacuum chamber in use is described. The component is substantially formed of a layered material comprising a fibrous composite material layer having a surface that is coated with a copper intermediate layer and an impermeable outer layer of nickel. In use the outer layer is exposed to a high vacuum.
Abstract:
A pressure vessel includes: a body comprising a cylindrical section; and a skirt comprising a hip, a leg, and a restraint. The hip formed with or attached to the body and has a profile for receiving an upper portion of the leg. The profile is oversized relative to the leg upper portion, thereby defining a radial clearance between the hip and the leg to account for thermal cycling of the body. The restraint fastens the hip and the leg while allowing limited movement between the hip and the leg to account for the thermal cycling.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed towards a clamp adapter assembly for connecting an instrument to a pressure vessel. The clamp adapter assembly of the present invention allows an operator to convert a bolt connection base known in the art into a base suitable for utilizing a clamped connection similarly known in the art. The connection assembly includes a bottom plate, at least one fastener to fasten the bottom plate to a base, a top retaining plate, and a clamp. The peripheral portions of the bottom plate and top retaining plate may be beveled in order to be received within a tri-clamp. The top retaining plate may include two sections that overlappingly engage one another.
Abstract:
A control system of a surgery autoclave is described, which is capable of establishing a sterilization cycle which includes at least a first evacuation step of a sterilization chamber and of heating of a load and a final drying step. The autoclave includes a device capable of detecting a parameter proportional to the energy used up in a step of the cycle preceding the drying step and the control system establishes at least a reduction of the drying step upon determining that, the parameter of used up energy lies below a preset threshold.
Abstract:
A method to provide a high pressure press with a replaceable wear liner. The wear liner is first inserted into the cylindrical pressure chamber of the press and the pre-stressed by the application of an excess pressure above the yield point. The excess pressure is sufficient to increase the diameter of the wear liner and produce a residual radial compressive stress that holds the wear liner in place. When the wear liner is removed from the press it is dismantled. The advantage of the invention is that the replaceable wear liner, and a high pressure press comprising it, may be relatively inexpensive to produce and the replaceable wear liner may be quickly and simply replaced.
Abstract:
A reactor includes a housing with an input port for liquid feedstock and an exhaust port for gas produced by a liquid gasification process. The housing includes a pressurized reaction chamber with a pair of spaced apart electrodes having inward free ends immersed in the liquid feedstock. One of the electrodes is mounted on an operable shaft, to move inward and outward relative to the other electrode. A drive mechanism for the operable shaft is located outside the reaction chamber to selectively move the shaft. The reaction chamber is pressurized to increase efficiency of the reactor, and the chamber within which the drive mechanism is located is pressurized to substantially the same pressure as the reaction chamber.
Abstract:
The invention discloses a plurality of cylindrical slugs linked together by a cable. The slugs are separated by spacers and the cable is crimped at each end thereof to keep the slugs and spacers from coming off the cable. The cable-slugs-spacers assembly is inserted through a guide tube and into an annulus locking the cover of the pressure vessel to the housing of the vessel. A relief mechanism is provided in the cover to ensure that the cable-slugs-spacers assembly is fully inserted in the annulus thus preventing accidental extrication of the cover when the vessel is pressurized. A proximity sensor is positioned in the housing of the vessel and senses the pressure of the first slug inserted into the annulus thus insuring that the cable-slugs-spacers assembly has been fully inserted in the annulus. A coupling is provided on one end of the cable-slugs-spacers assembly to positively lock the assembly in place ensuring that the cover will not be extricated from the pressure vessel under pressure.
Abstract:
A pressure monitoring system in which pressure in a container causes a slide which extends out from the container, to be moved against a group of springs in cascade formation and which are screened from microwave radiation. The extent of such movement, which corresponds to changes in container pressure, is measured by means of a light transmitter and a receiver which cause light to be reflected off a reflective surface of the slide and then analyzed. Also disclosed is a process in which the heating of a container is controlled as a function of the differential quotient of pressure over time.
Abstract:
A flow stabilization system for damping pressure variations in a process discharging an effluent gas stream, in which the process is pressure-sensitive and downstream pressure variations can adversely affect the upstream process, said system comprising a motive fluid driver constructed and arranged to receive the effluent gas stream from the process, and means for sensing a flow characteristic of the effluent gas stream and responsively adjusting the flow of the effluent gas stream to damp pressure fluctuations in the process. The flow stabilization system may further comprise: (i) a variable frequency drive for motively operating the motive fluid driver at a correspondingly variable rotational speed; (ii) a pressure transducer monitor for monitoring the flow characteristic of the effluent gas stream and generating a pressure transduced signal; and (iii) a proportional integral derivative controller coupled in pressure transduced signal-receiving relationship with the pressure transducer monitor, and responsive to the pressure transduced signal to correspondingly adjust the variable frequency drive and responsively selectively drive the motive fluid driver to damp pressure fluctuations in the process. The system has applicability to stabilizing pressure-sensitive processes such as vapor phase coating and reaction processes in semiconductor manufacturing.
Abstract:
An autoclave for treating charged materials (6) with vapor under pressure, with a substantially cylindrical inner chamber (2) surrounded by an autoclave casing (1) and with a heating device (8) responsive to a heated heat transfer medium to generate vapor in the inner chamber (2). In order to provide the heating in a way which is favorable structurally and in terms of energy, it is provided that the heating device (8) is arranged within one of the curved side regions of the autoclave casing (1), and consists of at least one flue (10) arranged substantially vertically in the autoclave and a heat exchanger (11) arranged in the lower inflow region of the flue (10) and through which flows a heat transfer medium, so that a convection flow results circulating substantially in the circumferential direction of the casing (1) of the autoclave.
