Abstract:
A hydrolyzable resin composition consisting essentially of a resin selected from the group consisting of an acrylic resin, a polyester resin and an epoxy resin and an organic solvent in which the resin is soluble, wherein said resin has at least one side chain bearing at least one terminal group of the formula: ##STR1## wherein X represents ##STR2## M is a metal selected from zinc, copper and tellurium; x is an integer of 1 to 2; R represents an organic acid residue selected from ##STR3## and R.sub.1 is a monovalent organic residue, and the metal content of said resin is 0.3 to 20% by weight of the resin. The subject composition provides superior antifouling coating compositions.
Abstract:
There is disclosed acrylate-terminated oligomers which are radiation-curable and which can be pigmented with magnetizable power to cure on electron beam exposure to provide superior magnetic recording structures. These oligomers include sulfonic acid groups which improve pigment wetting and which can be included in amide-containing compounds.
Abstract:
A coating composition comprises an hydroxyalkyl carbamate compound, an amino cross-linker, a polymer containing active sites which are reactive with the cross-linker and, optionally, an acid catalyst. The hydroxyalkyl carbamate compound serves as a reactive diluent in the composition. The composition is stable at ambient temperature and reactive at elevated temperature to form a cross-linked compound in which the hydroxyalkyl carbamate compound is incorporated.
Abstract:
Cationic heat-hardenable binders comprising polymers containing amine groups and a crosslinking component which is film-forming with the amine group containing polymer through transesterification at elevated temperatures are described. The binders which are water-dilutable upon protonization of the amine groups comprise(a) 60 to 95% by weight of a polymer having a hydroxyl value of from 40 to 450 mg KOH/g and an amine value of from 20 to 150 mg KOH/g, water-soluble or water-dilutable upon protonation of the basic groups, and(b) 5 to 40% by weight of a cross-linking component of the general formula ##STR1## n having a value of from 1 through 5, R.sub.1 being the moiety of a monoalcohol having from 1 to 8 C-atoms or of a polyol or of a polyamine or of a polyepoxy compound or of a polyisocyanate remaining after reaction with one or more carboxylic acid groups, andR.sub.2 being a straight chain or branched alkyl radical with from 1 to 8 C-atoms.The binders have excellent characteristics particularly when deposited from an electrodeposition system.
Abstract:
A composition useful in coatings, binders, adhesives, and the like comprises a stable blend of a carboxylic acid copolymer emulsion and a halohydroxy propyl ammonium copolymer solution. The blend is curable, after activation by base, to a crosslinked insoluble alloy polymer.
Abstract:
A water-soluble coating composition adapted for imparting appropriate printing, especially off-set printing, and processing characteristics to a thermoplastic resin film to be used as a synthetic paper and a coated film prepared with the composition are provided. The coating composition comprises (A) 100 parts by weight of a water-soluble polymer containing tertiary or quaternary nitrogen, (B) 5 to 75 parts by weight of a water-soluble polyaminepolyamideepichlorohydrin adduct, and (C) 5 to 100 parts by weight of a water-soluble polyimine compound.
Abstract:
Metallic coat finishing with good gloss vividness is provided by undercoating a liquid coating containing a specified thermosetting vinyl copolymer and a metallic appearance imparting pigment, overcoating a thermosetting, clear powder paint and then baking the two coated film together. The specified thermosetting vinyl copolymer is obtained by copolymerizing N-alkoxymethyl(metha)-acrylic amide, a hydroxyl group containing vinyl monomer, a carboxyl group containing vinyl monomer and copolymerizable other vinyl monomers in specified amounts.
Abstract:
Reaction products of alkyd resins and/or oil-free polyesters, (meth) acrylic acid copolymers and polysiloxans are excellent binders for high quality lacquers particularly for surface lacquers used in the motor car industry.
Abstract:
An air-cross-linkable lacquer binder comprising a copolymer of copolymerized units of from 10 to 40% by weight of glycidyl acrylate, glycidyl methacrylate or a mixture thereof, and 70 to 10% by weight of at least one other vinyl monomer which has been reacted with (based in each case on the quantity of lacquer binder) of from 0.01 to 30% by weight of at least one wood preservative having at least one glycidyl-reactive hydrogen atom and from 20 to 60% by weight of at least one air-drying natural or isomerized fatty acid and from 0 to 10% by weight of a dicarboxylic acid anhydride, said lacquer binder having an average molecular weight M.sub.n of from 1500 to 15,000 and an acid number of from 3 to 15. One special advantage of the lacquer binder according to the invention is that the wood preservatives are chemically fixed to the polymer molecule so that their release is retarded and the protective action is prolonged. Another advantage is the possibility to prepare well-drying wood preservative systems with lacquers which have not been treated with drying agents.
