Abstract: Methods are provided for the production of nitrogen, hydrogen, and carbon dioxide from an exhaust gas. Exhaust gas from combustion in a fuel rich (or reducing) atmosphere is primarily composed of CO2, CO, N2, H2O, and H2. CO may be converted to CO2 and H2 via the water gas shift reaction. Carbon dioxide may then be effectively separated from nitrogen and hydrogen to produce a carbon dioxide stream and a nitrogen/hydrogen stream. The nitrogen/hydrogen stream may then be effectively separated to produce a high purity nitrogen stream and a high purity hydrogen stream. The process may be done in any order, such as separating the nitrogen first or the carbon dioxide first.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for two-stage treatment of contaminated particulate material, such as soil, sediment, and/or sludge. The methods and systems utilize a thermal desorption process combined with a smoldering combustion process. The contaminated particulate material is first exposed to thermal desorption at high temperatures (e.g., greater than 150° C.) to form a heated contaminated particulate material. Next, a smoldering combustion process is initiated by introducing a combustion-supporting gas. The combined process can take place in the same or different treatment units. Treating the particulate material with a thermal desorption process prior to a smoldering combustion process enhances the completeness and throughput compared to operating these processes separately.

Abstract: A process for the catalytic alkylation of an olefin with an isoparaffin is described in which a feed comprising at least one olefin and at least one isoparaffin is contacted with a solid acid catalyst under alkylation conditions effective for reaction between the olefin and the isoparaffin to produce an alkylated product. The solid acid catalyst comprises a crystalline microporous material of the MWW framework type, the feed comprises at least one C5+ olefin and/or at least one C5+ isoparaffin and the alkylated product comprises at least 20% wt % of C10+ branched paraffins.

Abstract: An improved fired heater with air preheating provided by one or more heat pipes. The fired heater may include at least one burner for combusting a fuel stream and an air stream and producing heated exhaust gases; a hot gas flow path and at least one conduit containing a process fluid to be heated by heat transfer from the heated exhaust gases; and an air preheater comprising at least one heat pipe having a first section exposed to the heated exhaust gases and a second section exposed to the air stream, wherein the heat pipe is positioned and arranged to transfer heat from the heated exhaust gases to the air stream, wherein the at least one heat pipe contains a working fluid sealed within the heat pipe, wherein said working fluid transfers heat from the heated exhaust gas to the air stream to be preheated.

Abstract: A system and process for selectively separating H2S from a gas mixture which also comprises CO2 is disclosed. A water recycle stream is fed to the absorber in order to create a higher concentration absorbent above the recycle feed and having a greater H2S selectivity at lower acid gas loadings, and a more dilute absorbent below the recycle feed and having a greater H2S selectivity at higher acid gas loadings. Also disclosed is a system and process for selectively separating H2S by utilizing two different absorbents, one absorbent for the upper section of the absorber, tailored to have a greater H2S selectivity at lower acid gas loadings, and a second absorbent for the lower section of the absorber, tailored to have a greater H2S selectivity at higher acid gas loadings.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for producing upgraded raffinate and extract products from lubricant boiling range feeds and/or other feeds having a boiling range of 400° F. (204° C.) to 1500° F. (816° C.) or more. The upgraded raffinate and/or extract products can have a reduced or minimized concentration of sulfur, nitrogen, metals, or a combination thereof. The reduced or minimized concentration of sulfur, nitrogen, and/or metals can be achieved by hydrotreating a suitable feed under hydrotreatment conditions corresponding to relatively low levels of feed conversion. Optionally, the feed can also dewaxed, such as by catalytic dewaxing or by solvent dewaxing. Because excessive aromatic saturation is not desired, the pressure for hydrotreatment (and optional dewaxing) can be 500 psig (˜3.4 MPa) to 1200 psig (˜8.2 MPa).

Abstract: A catalyst system comprising a combination of: 1) one or more catalyst compounds comprising at least one nitrogen linkage; 2) a support comprising an organosilica material, which is a mesoporous organosilica material; and 3) an optional activator. Useful catalysts include pyridyldiamido transition metal complexes, HN5 compounds, and bis(imino)pyridyl complexes. The organosilica material is a polymer of at least one monomer of Formula [Z1OZ2SiCH2]3(1), where Z1 represents a hydrogen atom, a C1-C4alkyl group, or a bond to a silicon atom of another monomer and Z2 represents a hydroxyl group, a C1-C4alkoxy group, a C1-C6 alkyl group, or an oxygen atom bonded to a silicon atom of another monomer. This invention further relates to processes to polymerize olefins comprising contacting one or more olefins with the above catalyst system.

Abstract: A photovoltaic module comprising: (a) a photovoltaic laminate including: two or more electrically conducting dements extending through the photovoltaic laminate so that power is moved from one photovoltaic module towards another photovoltaic module or towards an inverter; and (b) one or more connectors connected to each of the two or more electrically conducting elements by a connection joint, each of the one or more connectors include: two or more opposing terminals that each are connected to and extend from one of the two or more electrically conducing elements; wherein a dielectric space is located between the two or more opposing terminals and the dielectric space blocks material used to form a connection joint from passing from a first terminal to a second terminal, the material from the connection joint cools before the material passes from one terminal to a second terminal, the material fails to travel from the first terminal to the second terminal, or a combination thereof.
