Abstract:
The present disclosure includes a battery module having a housing, electrochemical cells disposed in the housing and electrically coupled together via bus bars, two or more sensors in electrical communication with the bus bars, and two or more leads corresponding with the two or more sensors and extending away from the two or more sensors. The battery module also includes a bundle mechanism that bundles the two or more leads together in a bundle, and a pass through sized and positioned to accommodate the bundle of two or more leads passing therethrough from a first side of the housing proximate which the bus bars are disposed to a second side of the housing. The battery module also includes a printed circuit board (PCB) disposed on the second side of the housing and configured to receive the bundle of two or more leads.
Abstract:
The present disclosure includes a battery module having a vent path with an exit port. The battery module also includes a vent pad disposed within the vent path and blocking at least a portion of the exit port, coupled to a boundary surface of the exit port via an adhesive layer between the vent pad and the boundary surface, and configured to enable venting through the exit port by separating from the boundary surface along the adhesive layer in response to a pressure against the vent pad exceeding a venting pressure threshold of the battery module.
Abstract:
The present disclosure includes a battery module having a housing configured to receive one or more electrochemical cells. The housing includes a bottom internal surface and a recessed portion disposed in the bottom internal surface and proximate to a low point on the bottom internal surface, wherein the recessed portion defines an airspace configured to retain fluid within the housing away from the one or more electrochemical cells.
Abstract:
A battery module mounting system includes a housing of the battery module configured to receive a plurality of electrochemical cells, a lid coupled to a side of the housing, and a cage configured to secure the housing to a vehicle. Additionally, the cage includes a coupling mechanism configured to engage with the lid in a tongue and groove configuration to block movement of the housing in at least three directions when engaged.
Abstract:
The present disclosure includes a battery module having a housing that includes a lid and a battery cell with a battery cell terminal and a battery cell vent on an end of the battery cell. The battery cell vent is configured to exhaust battery cell effluent. The battery module includes a printed circuit board positioned in an immediate vent direction of the battery cell, a vent shield channel positioned between the battery cell vent and the printed circuit board along the immediate vent direction of battery cell effluent, where the vent shield plate is immediately adjacent to the printed circuit board and configured to block the effluent from contacting the printed circuit board and to redirect the battery cell effluent along a desired vent path, and a module vent fluidly coupled to the desired vent path and configured to direct the battery cell effluent out of the battery module.
Abstract:
A terminal for a battery module and a method of manufacture of the terminal are provided. The battery module may include a plurality of battery cells and a bus bar. The bus bar may be electrically coupled to the plurality of battery cells. The battery module also may include a battery terminal that carries a voltage from the bus bar. The battery terminal may include a generally cylindrical terminal portion and a connector. The connector may be coupled to the bus bar cell interconnect. The battery terminal also may include a bent portion. The bent portion is disposed between the terminal portion and the connector.
Abstract:
A lid assembly for use in a battery module includes a lid with apertures extending through the lid in a vertical direction, where each of the apertures is configured to receive a terminal of a battery cell of the battery module. The lid assembly also includes one or more extensions extending away from the lid in the vertical direction. Each of the one or more extensions is configured to couple the lid to a printed circuit board assembly of the battery module. The lid assembly also includes walls extending away from the lid in the vertical direction. Each of the walls is configured to extend between a first terminal of a first battery cell and a second terminal of a second battery cell.
Abstract:
A battery module includes a housing and battery cells disposed in the housing, each of the battery cells including two terminals. The battery module also includes bus bar cell interconnects including a first material, where each bus bar cell interconnect is configured to electrically couple two adjacent battery cells via an electrical coupling with a first terminal of one of the adjacent battery cells and a second terminal of the other adjacent battery cell, where at least one of the first and second terminals includes the first material. The battery module includes welds, each weld being disposed at a corresponding welding point to directly couple one of the bus bar cell interconnects with the corresponding at least one terminal including the first material. Each welding point is accessible for welding from a position above the battery cells when the interconnects are disposed over the battery cells.
