    Abstract: A histogram generation portion calculates a prescribed feature value of a pixel and the maximum feature value for the pixel, for each pixel of one frame of an input video signal. Then, the ratio of the feature value of the pixel to the maximum feature value is calculated for each pixel as an index of color brightness, and a histogram generated wherein the numbers of pixels are integrated by index value. An enhancement processing portion applies gain and carries out an enhancement for pixel values wherein the index in the histogram which the histogram generation portion generates is greater than or equal to a prescribed threshold. The feature value is treated as a luminosity (L*) which is defined with CIELAB chroma space. Additionally, the feature value may be data which has the maximum tone value among pixel RGB data, or may be a luminosity value (Y) of the pixel.

    Abstract: An electronic ballast for a discharge lamps has a dimming control for varying an input DC voltage and an input driving frequency in combination to achieve a lamp dimming in accordance with a dimmer demand. The ballast includes a dimming processor with a memory for storing a table that gives a predetermined relation between the dimming demand and a voltage command designating the input DC voltage as well as a frequency command designating the input driving frequency. A command processing unit is included in the processor to derive the voltage and frequency commands that matches with the dimmer demand so as to vary the light output of the lamp in accordance with the voltage command and the frequency command, respectively derived from the table.

    Abstract: Shading correction is effected by partitioning a white standard surface into a plurality of scanning blocks having the same number of scanning lines, scanning the standard surface by block to determine block median values in a first processing stage, determining global median values from the block median values in a second processing stage, and subjecting objective image data read from a given original image to arithmetic such as proportioning calculation. With the two-stage processing, shading distortion caused due to nonuniformity in sensitivity of an image scanning system can be rationally and reliably corrected to a high degree with a simple processing circuit.

    Abstract: An apparatus for operating discharge lamps includes first closed circuit for connecting a discharge lamp through first switching means to a pulsating power source, second closed circuit for connecting the lamp to the power source through a series circuit of second switching means which operates during OFF period of the first switching means and an energy-storing means, and an arrangement for controlling the both switching means. A pulsating source voltage is thereby applied to the discharge lamp. The apparatus is made thus capable at least of minimizing current-limiting impedance and realizing a continuously stabilized discharge of the lamp.
