Abstract:
To provide a technique with which a quartz glass jig and a doped quartz glass jig are regenerated by completely removing the impurities which are attached to the surface and the impurities which have diffused into the interior from quartz glass jigs which have been used in semiconductor production processes and then carrying out working repair and removing the contamination from the working processes as well. After use, the impurities are removed from the aforementioned quartz glass jigs in the said purification treatment process which includes a purification treatment process in which the quartz glass jigs are subjected to a purification treatment in a gaseous atmosphere which includes a halogen element at a temperature within the region above a prescribed temperature.

A preform for a low loss fiber optic cable and method and apparatus for fabricating such a preform is provided. The method includes providing AlCl3 and CVD precursors and locally doping CaCl3. Alkali and/or alkaline earth fluxing agents can be introduced. The alkali and/or alkaline earths are doped along with the aluminum into the silica glass core.
Abstract:
A multicomponent particulate gel includes 80-100 mole % SiO2, 1-10 mole % X2O, 1-10 mole % YO, 1-15 mole % Al2O3, and 0.1-5.0 weight % Er2O3,where X represents lithium, sodium, potassium, or mixtures thereof and Y represents calcium, barium, magnesium, lead or mixtures thereof, and the ratio of Al2O3 to (X2OnullYO) is between about 0.9 and about 2.5. A process of manufacturing the gel includes hydrolyzing alkoxide derivatives of silicon, aluminum, erbium, lithium, sodium, potassium, calcium, barium, magnesium, lead or mixtures thereof in water to generate their respective hydroxide derivatives; polymerizing the hydroxide derivatives to produce a gel slurry comprising an essentially silica network; and drying the gel slurry to produce the gel.

Abstract:
A quartz glass lamp vessel 1 or 21 is used in many types of lamps. Sometimes it is expedient to absorb a certain portion of the emission spectrum. In accordance with the prior art this is possible by including rare earth metal oxides in the quartz glass. The solubility of rare earth metal oxides in quartz glass is, however, limited.According to the invention, quartz glass is used which contains an alkali metal oxide and optionally, an alkaline earth metal oxide, in addition to a rare earth metal oxide. The alkali metal oxide increases the solubility of the rare earth metal oxide, so that rare earth metal oxides can be used in larger concentrations. This results in glasses which have a higher degree of absorption, from which lamp vessels can be produced.
Abstract:
Doped quartz glass is produced by fusing a mixture of quartz powder with a concentrate. The concentrate consists of quartz powder and the oxides of alkaline earth metals and/or alkali metals (dopants). By adding a small quantity of dopants, a doped quartz glass can be obtained having a viscosity behavior corresponding to that of Vycor glass. Still softer glasses can be obtained by the addition of some more dopants.
Abstract:
A method for the production of quartz glass objects starting from a melt of silicon dioxide in a helium-hydrogen atmosphere. Oxides, hydroxides or other compounds of K, Mg, Ca, Sr and/or Ba are added in a quantity of between 5 and 200.times.10.sup.-.sup.3 mol.%. The quartz glass obtained has consequently considerable fewer trapped gas bubbles.

Abstract:
A method of producing a glass briquette in which reclaimed glass fines are mixed with a binder material to create a mixture. The mixture is subsequently compressed in a chamber to form a briquette having the shape of the interior of the chamber. The reclaimed glass includes glass fines of a size of smaller than 10 mm. The method is performed without melting the glass fines such that the resulting briquette contains the discrete glass fines held in the binder and may be used as a furnace ingredient for later glass product production. The glass briquette may contain other batch ingredients required in the production of glass.
