    Abstract: A hydrogen generator includes a container having a gas outlet that is configured to contain a soluble chemical fuel that reacts with a catalyst to generate hydrogen. A control cylinder is attached to the container and comprises a piston configured to travel axially within the control cylinder, a pole attached to the piston and extending into the container, a catalyst holder provided within the container and connected to the pole, resilient means biasing the catalyst holder towards a bottom of the container, and a gas inlet port. A gas flow line is in fluid communication with the gas outlet and has a first end in fluid communication with the gas inlet port, a second end configured to feed hydrogen to a hydrogen-consuming device, and a two-way valve provided to allow fluid communication between the first and second ends of the gas flow line to be selectably established or cut off.

    Abstract: An apparatus for continuous sulfonization of discrete articles using ultra-dry air, sulfur trioxide gas, and a neutralizing fluid includes a sulfonization chamber for treating the discrete articles with sulfur trioxide gas, the sulfonization chamber including a chamber bottom having a circular periphery extending about a center axis and defining a chamber bottom opening on the center axis, the chamber wall having a cylindrical shape extending upwardly about the circular periphery of the chamber bottom and perpendicular to the chamber bottom, and a rotating dial plate having a circular periphery and presenting an upper surface extending radially from and rotatable about the center axis and disposed above the chamber bottom for receiving the discrete articles at the circular periphery of the rotating dial plate.

    Abstract: A method allowing the efficient conduction of highly exothermic, catalyst initiated reactions, particularly ones in which the product spectrum is highly dependant upon the temperature at which the process is conducted and to diffusional resistances within the catalyst particle matrix. The process occurs in a heat transfer device which consists of at least two channels which have at least one wall in common. Preferably two distinct sets of flow channels exist in which the process proceeds in one set of channels and heat transfer fluid passes through the second. The area of contact between the two sets of channels is sufficiently large to allow the efficient transfer of heat. These dimensions are controlled through the use of hollow catalyst particles through which the process gas can diffuse through either the inside or outside.
