    Abstract: Methods and devices for measuring full or partial Mueller matrix information in a single shot are described. One single shot polarimeter includes a polarization filter that is positioned to receive collimated light from a light source and to produce light having different polarization states. The polarization filter includes at least four sections, where each section receives a portion of the collimated light and produces light of a particular polarization state, which is spatially separated from light produced by other sections of the polarization filter. An imaging component images the sections of the polarization filter onto a plane of a sample object. One or more optical elements receive the light from the sample object and image a section of the sample object onto a detector. The disclosed devices and methods enable the measurement of the Mueller matrix of the sample with high signal-to-noise ratios.

    Abstract: An electronic device is provided. The electronic device includes a lighting-emitting diode (LED) module configured to emit light of a first polarization direction, a first photodiode configured to receive the light emitted from the LED module through a first polarizer having the first polarization direction, a second photodiode configured to receive the light emitted from the LED module through a second polarizer having a second polarization direction perpendicular to the first polarization direction, and a processor configured to determine wearing information of the electronic device based on luminous intensity of light sensed from each of the first photodiode and the second photodiode.

    Abstract: A circular dichroism measurement device includes: a sample part having a sample; a PEM that modulates a polarization state of an incoming light to the sample part or an outgoing light from the sample part; a photo detector that detects a change in a light intensity of the outgoing light from the sample part; an amplifier that amplifies a detection signal from the photo detector; an A/D converter that converts the detection signal amplified by the amplifier to a digital signal; and a digital processing device that executes a signal processing to the digital signal from the A/D converter to acquire a measurement value of circular dichroism of the sample. The A/D converter is configured to convert the detection signal, that is amplified in a state of containing the AC component and the DC component of the light intensity that changes with the same frequency as the modulation frequency of PEM.

    Abstract: An alignment apparatus for a polarization device includes a polarizer subassembly for polarizing a light beam, a rotary support for rotatably supporting the polarization device in a path of the light beam downstream of the polarizer subassembly, an analyzer subassembly downstream of the rotary support for receiving the light beam propagated through the polarization device, and a photodetector array disposed downstream of the analyzer subassembly and extending along the width dimension of the light beam for detecting the light beam propagated through the analyzer subassembly. At least one of the polarizer or analyzer subassemblies includes a spatially variant polarization element having a polarization property varying along the width dimension of the light beam.
