Abstract:
A planting pot comprises a container with an open top portion and a closed bottom portion, the bottom portion having at least one drainage opening for drainage of water therefrom, a planting medium for a plant located within the container, the planting medium comprising a top, an irrigation system comprising an irrigation line in fluid communication with at least two vertically oriented posts, the posts comprising an upper portion above the top of the planting medium and a lower portion within the planting medium, at least the lower portion of the posts being hollow. The lower portion has multiple openings to permit irrigation water to flow there through into the planting medium, and a shade supported by the upper portions of the posts for shading a plant in the container.
Abstract:
A biodegradable polyester composition based on a total weight of the biodegradable polyester composition, including a weight content of cyclopentanone which is 0.5 ppm-85 ppm is provided. The cyclopentanone is added into the composition and controlling the content of cyclopentanone in the composition within a range of 0.5 ppm-85 ppm to realize a lubrication degree of a film of biodegradable polyester during a blow molding process. When a velocity of film blowing is 176 Kg/h, a range of a film thickness is less than 0.2 μm and a relative deviation of the film thickness is less than 1%.
Abstract:
A thermally insulating article is provided which includes a subdivided, non-periodically arranged, amorphous-array-structured polymer particle assembly, wherein the article has a thermal conductivity of less than about 0.10 watt/m·K. The article can be used for many purposes, including attaching to an exterior window to reduce energy loss through the window.
Abstract:
Provided herein is a cellulose nanofiber-containing composition producing method for producing a cellulose nanofiber-containing composition that can be easily combined with compounds having a reactive double-bond group, and that contains only a small amount of uncured material that acts as a plasticizer in a molded product, using a simple producing method that does not require any process involving solvent displacement or solvent removal. A high-strength molded body prepared by using the cellulose nanofiber-containing composition is also provided. In refining cellulose in a mixture containing a compound having a reactive double-bond group and a hydroxyl group of 10 KOHmg/g or less and a defibrating resin as essential components, the cellulose has a moisture content of 4 to 25 parts by mass with respect to 100 parts by mass of the amount of the cellulose converted on the assumption that the percentage moisture of the cellulose is 0%.
Abstract:
A polymer composition for use in the removal and recovery of oil slicks or spills floating on the surfaces of bodies or water or present on land, such as beaches comprising a foam of a blend of polyethylene and an ethylene-alkyl acrylate copolymer and a process for using such foams in the selective removal of oil from fresh water or salt water and the recovery of the absorbed oils from the foams is disclosed. The polymer composition is also for use in other applications in which absorption of liquids is desired.
Abstract:
Described herein are compositions including a first polysaccharide having at least one substituent selected from —(CH2)pO—X and —O—(CH2)q—X, wherein X is —COOH, —NH2, or C2-C10 alkenyl, each p is independently an integer of 0-10, and each q is independently an integer of 0-10, a second polysaccharide having at least one substituent selected from —(CH2)sO—Y and —O—(CH2)t—Y, wherein Y is each s is independently an integer of 0-10, and each t is independently an integer of 0-10, wherein the first polysaccharide and the second polysaccharide are coupled to each other through at least one crosslink formed between at least one X and at least one Y, and at least one of the following: at least one fiber reinforcing material, at least one curing accelerator, at least one coupling agent, or combinations thereof. Also described are methods of making such compositions and articles made of such compositions.
Abstract:
A formulation for generating an adhesion barrier that includes a plurality of particles or a dry powder that is made of a polymer combination of at least one biodegradable polymer and at least one water soluble polymer is disclosed. Methods of making and delivering the formulation are further disclosed. The formulation of particles is deposited on a surface of internal body tissue and the deposited formulation absorbs moisture from the tissue and forms a film over the surface. The film acts as an adhesion barrier by reducing or preventing adhesion of the surface to other body tissue.
Abstract:
The invention relates to biocompatible, bioabsorbable derivatized non-crosslinked chitosan compositions optionally crosslinked to gelatin/collagen by 1-ethyl-3-[3-dimethylaminopropyl]carbodiimide hydrochloride (EDC) for biomedical use and methods of making and testing such compositions, including a modified acute systemic toxicity test. The compositions comprise derivatized chitosan reacetylated to a degree of N-deacetylation (DDA) of between about 15% and 40%. The compositions are typically bioabsorbed in about 90 days or less and can be made to bioabsorb at differing rates of speed. The compositions are initially soluble in aqueous solution below pH 6.5. The compositions have an acid content that can be adjusted between about 0% (w/w) and about 8% (w/w) to customize the composition for uses that require and/or tolerate differing levels of cytotoxicity, adhesion, composition cohesion, and cell infiltration into the composition.
Abstract:
