Abstract: Methods and apparatus are for producing ammonia. The method has steps of combining hydrogen gas and nitrogen gas in a wellbore to produce ammonia, and extracting the ammonia from the wellbore. The apparatus has at least one production device for combining hydrogen gas and nitrogen gas to produce ammonia, the production device being configured to be disposed downhole in a wellbore for utilising conditions of temperature and pressure in the wellbore to facilitate the production of the ammonia. A method of processing fluid in a process of producing hydrogen or ammonia is exemplified having steps of performing electrolysis of brine or other electrolyte fluid in the wellbore to produce hydrogen gas, and injecting waste fluid from the electrolysis process into a geological formation of the subsurface.

Abstract: The invention relates to a pressure vessel, having: a reaction chamber (2) as a pressure space for the initiation and/or facilitation of chemical and/or physical pressure reactions of samples (P) accommodated in the reaction chamber (2); a fluid inlet (20) with a feed valve (21) which is adjustable between an open position, for the feed of a fluid, preferably a flushing gas, into the reaction chamber (2), and a closed position, for stopping the feed of the fluid; a fluid outlet (30) with a discharge valve (31), which is adjustable between an open position, for the discharge of a fluid out of the reaction chamber (2), and a closed position, for stopping the discharge of the fluid out of the reaction chamber (2); and an oxygen sensor (33) for detecting an oxygen content in the reaction chamber (2). The pressure vessel (1) furthermore has a control device which is configured to control the feed valve (21) and the discharge valve (31) on the basis of the oxygen content detected by the oxygen sensor (33), such that the reaction chamber (2) is flushed via the feed and discharge valves (21, 31) situated in the open position, and at least the discharge valve (31) switches from the open position into the closed position as soon as a predetermined oxygen content is undershot. The invention also relates to a corresponding method.

Abstract: A SCWO reactor fouling prevention and mitigation system that includes at least one feedstock tee which provides a feedstock to the SCWO reactor, at least one feedstock tee pressure sensor, such that each of the at least one feedstock tee has one of the at least one feedstock tee pressure sensor, at least one pressure sensor proximate a SCWO reactor inlet, and at least one pressure sensor proximate a SCWO reactor outlet. Also included is a controller which triggers a Clean In Place (CIP) procedure when there is a pressure difference between any two of the following, the SCWO reactor inlet, the at least one feedstock tee, and the SCWO reactor outlet. The CIP procedure includes washing a portion of the SCWO reactor with a fluid supplied through the at least one feedstock tee.

Abstract: An entirely water-based, energy self-sufficient, integrated in-line waste management system is provided for comprehensive conversion of all organic fractions of municipal and wider community waste to fuels suitable for use in transportation, with all solid residues converted to high nutrition compost. The system is based on a combination of pre-treatment, involving alkaline hydrolysis and saponification; three-way separation of the pre-treated waste into different streams that are each directed to suitable further processing including fuel production; which includes biodiesel generation in a continuous-flow catalytic esterification unit, and anaerobic digestion to produce methane or other small molecule biofuel. Remaining solids are converted to compost in a quasi-continuous process.

Abstract: Described herein are methods, systems, and techniques relating to clathrate hydrate formation processes and, particularly, involving reactive metal nucleation substrates for promoting clathrate hydrate formation. The disclosed methods, systems, and techniques allow for improved nucleation rate and yield of clathrate hydrates. In some cases, the disclosed methods, systems, and techniques can also improve or reduce the amount of time needed for obtaining a given quantity of clathrate hydrate phase, for example, in desalination, gas separation and/or gas sequestration processes. The reactive metal nucleation substrate may include reactive metals from Group II, Group I, or Group XIII of the periodic table, for example, in alloyed form with other metals and/or nonmetal elements.
