Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process and a plant for the production, in particular the continuous production, of nitrobenzene by means of adiabatic nitration of benzene with nitric acid in the presence of sulfuric acid, in which, following the nitration, a multi-stage concentration of the sulfuric acid is carried out by means of heating at a pressure that is reduced as compared with ambient pressure, and wherein the heating takes place using the heat generated in the adiabatic nitration of benzene.
Abstract:
Synthesis of the novel compound 3 (3-(5-substituted Oxy-2,4-dinitro-phenyl)-2-oxo-propionic acid ester) to make Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) and using it for pharmaceutical purposes is described. More specifically, this disclosure relates to synthesizing the PQQ in an efficient method by using a novel intermediate Formula 1 resulting in a shorter process and higher yield of PQQ. A unique process to make sodium compound of PQQ using either sodium hydroxide and/or sodium carbonate is also shown.

Abstract:
A method and apparatus for converting natural gas from a source, such as a wellhead, pipeline, or a storage facility, into hydrocarbon liquid stable at room temperature, comprising a skid or trailer mounted portable gas to liquids reactor. The reactor includes a preprocessor which desulfurizes and dehydrates the natural gas, a first stage reactor which transforms the preprocessed natural gas into synthesis gas, and a liquid production unit using a Fischer-Tropsch or similar polymerization process. The hydrocarbon liquid may be stored in a portable tank for later transportation or further processed on site.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a process for the production of 1,5-dinitronaphthalene wherein naphthalene is nitrated by nitric acid in the absence of sulfuric acid at temperatures of from 30 to 80° C., wherein the nitric acid has a concentration of from 72 to 87 wt.-%, the reaction mixture obtained is filtered at temperatures of from 5 to 20° C. and the solid precipitate obtained is washed with water, and 1,5-dinitronaphthalene is isolated from the washed precipitate by washing with acetone.
Abstract:
Porous microcomposites have been prepared from perfluorinated ion-exchange polymer and metal oxides such as silica using the sol-gel process. Such microcomposites possess high surface area and exhibit extremely high catalytic activity.
Abstract:
The present invention provides apparatus and methods for the synthesis of combinatorial chemical libraries. The apparatus comprises a plurality of reaction vessels having an inner surface, an outer surface, a first opening, and a second opening. An agitator is contained within each of the reaction vessels for stimulating liquid circulation within the vessels. The apparatus has a common gas line having a plurality of gas outlet ports, where each of the reaction vessels has at least one gas outlet port positioned to feed into the vessel. The apparatus also has a common liquid line having a plurality of liquid outlet ports, where each of the reaction vessels has at least one liquid outlet port positioned to feed into the vessel. Each reaction vessel also has at least one valve coupled to the second opening on the vessel.
Abstract:
The invention is a process for regioselective nitration of substituted aromatic compounds and the corresponding reaction products. The reaction is conducted in the presence of a solid zeolite with small pores and with nitrogen pentoxide as the nitrating agent. The reaction products have a very high proportion of para-nitro substituted isomer.
Abstract:
The method provides nitro compounds at a high conversion and selectivity by nitrating substrates under comparatively mild conditions in the absence of catalysts. Organic substrates are nitrated using no catalysts or ozone, but using (1) at least one nitrogen compound selected from N.sub.2 O or NO and oxygen. It is advantageous for the nitration reaction to employ a nitrogen compound obtained by a reaction of the nitrogen compound with oxygen, particularly a nitrogen oxide comprising N.sub.2 O.sub.3 as a main component. Additionally, organic substrates are nitrated using (2) NO.sub.2. The substrates include a compound having a methine-carbon atom, and a compound having a methyl group or methylene group in an adjacent position to an aromatic ring.
