Abstract: Catalyst compositions comprising a zeolite and a mesoporous support or binder are disclosed. The mesoporous support or binder comprises a mesoporous metal oxide having a particle diameter of greater than or equal to 20 μm at 50% of the cumulative pore size distribution (d50). Also disclosed are processes for producing a mono-alkylated aromatic compound (e.g., ethylbenzene or cumene) which exhibit improved yield of the mono-alkylated aromatic compound using alkylation catalysts comprising one or more of these catalyst compositions.

Abstract: Disclosed is a composition useful in the hydrolysis of sulfur compounds that are contained in a gas stream. The composition comprises a calcined co-mulled mixture of psuedoboehmite, a cobalt compound, and a molybdenum compound such that the composition comprises gamma-alumina, at least 7.5 wt. % molybdenum, and at least 2.75 wt. % cobalt. The composition is made by forming into an agglomerate a co-mulled mixture pseudoboehmite, a cobalt component, and a molybdenum component followed by drying and calcining the agglomerate to provide a catalyst composition comprising gamma-alumina, at least 7.5 wt. % molybdenum, and at least 2.75 wt. % cobalt.

Abstract: A catalyst for treating heavy hydrocarbon feedstocks. The catalyst comprises a calcined particle comprising a co-mulled mixture made by co-mulling inorganic oxide powder, molybdenum trioxide powder, and a nickel compound or cobalt compound, or both compounds, and then forming the co-mulled mixture into a particle that is calcined to provide the calcined particle. The calcination is conducted at a temperature such that at least 20% of the pore volume of the calcined particle is in pores of greater than 5,000 Å and less than 70% of the pore volume of the calcined particle is in the pores having a pore size in the range of from 70 to 250 Å.

Abstract: A composition comprising an extruded inorganic support comprising an oxide of a metal or metalloid, and at least one catalytically active metal, wherein the extruded inorganic support has pores, a total pore volume, and a pore size distribution, wherein the pore size distribution displays at least two peaks of pore diameters, each peak having a maximum, wherein a first peak has a first maximum of pore diameters of equal to or greater than about 120 nm and a second peak has a second maximum of pore diameters of less than about 120 nm, and wherein greater than or equal to about 5% of a total pore volume of the extruded inorganic support is contained within the first peak of pore diameters.

Abstract: Improved catalyst supports, supported catalyst, and method of preparing and using the catalysts for the hydrodesulfurization of a residuum hydrocarbon feedstock are disclosed. The catalyst supports comprise titania alumina having 5 wt % or less titania and have greater than 70% of their pore volume in pores having a diameter between 70 Å and 130 Å and less than 2% in pores having a diameter above 1000 Å. Catalysts prepared from the supports contain Groups 6, 9 and 10 metals or metal compounds, and optionally phosphorus, supported on the titania alumina supports. Catalysts in accordance with the invention exhibit improved sulfur and MCR conversion in hydrotreating processes.

Abstract: A known method for producing porous graphitized carbon material covered with metal nanoparticles involves infiltrating a porous template framework of inorganic material with a carbon precursor. After thermal treatment of the precursor, the template is removed and the particulate porous carbon material is covered with a catalytically active substance. According to the invention, in order to keep the proportion of the noble metal loading at a low level, the thermal treatment of the precursor first involves carbonization, and the material is not graphitized into graphitized, particulate, porous carbon material until the template has been removed. The graphitized carbon material has a hierarchical pore structure with a pore volume of at least 0.5 cm3/g and at least 75% of the pore volume is apportioned to macropores with, size 100 to 5000 nm. Before covering with catalytically active substance, the carbon material is subjected to an activation treatment in an oxidizing atmosphere.

Abstract: The invention concerns a catalyst comprising a calcined oxide matrix which is mainly alumina and an active phase comprising nickel, said active phase being at least partially co-mixed within said calcined oxide matrix which is mainly alumina, the nickel content being in the range 5% to 65% by weight of said element with respect to the total mass of catalyst, said active phase not comprising metal from group VIB, the nickel particles having a diameter of less than 15 nm, said catalyst having a median mesopore diameter in the range 8 nm to 25 nm, a median macropore diameter of more than 300 nm, a mesopore volume, measured by mercury porosimetry, of 0.30 mL/g or more and a total pore volume, measured by mercury porosimetry, of 0.34 mL/g or more. The invention also concerns the process for the preparation of said catalyst, and its use in a hydrogenation process.
