Abstract: Disclosed is a method for making a polymer or copolymer aerogel product by forming an aerogel polymer or copolymer solution in the presence of a polymer or copolymer catalyst and solvent therefor. The aerogel polymer or copolymer solution is drained onto a spinning disk or cup. The solvent is removed under aerogel forming conditions to produce the aerogel fiber web or yarn product.

Abstract: A hydrogel capable of desalinating seawater and a preparation method thereof. The hydrogel is a polymer polymerized by a monomer containing a hydrophilic group and a carbon-carbon double bond via carbon-carbon double bonds. A degree of crosslinking of the polymer is 0.01 to 0.2. The monomer accounts for 5 wt % to 50 wt % of a mass of the hydrogel. The preparation method includes: mixing a monomer with a pore-forming agent, a cross-linking agent, a initiator and a catalyst evenly, obtaining a mixed material, then transferring the mixed material into a die; conducting a polymerization for 2 to 3 hours at a temperature of 20° C. to 30° C. first, followed by increasing the temperature to continue the polymerization until the polymerization is completed; and obtaining the hydrogel capable of desalinating seawater. The method according is convenient and efficient, and has advantages of being used under special conditions such as earthquake relief work, maritime rescue and wild adventure.

Abstract: A foamed, opacifying element having a target light blocking value (LBVT) and a target porous substrate is prepared by determining the light blocking value (LBVS) of the target porous substrate; calculating the LBVT-S difference; choosing a foamable aqueous composition; determining a dry coating weight for the chosen foamable aqueous composition (when foamed); and using the dry coating weight to form the single dry opacifying layer as the only layer disposed on the target porous substrate, such that the single dry opacifying layer has light blocking value that is equal to LBVT-S, ±10%. The chosen foamable aqueous composition comprises the essential components (a) through (e) described herein. The desired foamable aqueous composition can be chosen from a set of similar compositions to achieve the desired LBVT with the noted target porous substrate using suitable mathematical formula relating dry coating weight to light blocking value and a suitable data processor.

Abstract: A computer-controlled method for forming a composition-controlled product using 3D printing includes disposing two or more liquid reactant compositions in respective two or more reservoirs; and mixing the two or more liquid reactant compositions, which in turn includes controlling by the computer a mass ratio of the mixed two or more liquid reactant compositions. The computer-controlled method further includes scanning, under control of the computer, a mixed liquid reactants nozzle over a substrate; depositing the mixed liquid reactant compositions onto the substrate; and operating, under control of the computer, a light source to polymerize the deposited mixed liquid reactant compositions.

Abstract: A method for continuously preparing solvent-free open-cell and closed-cell polyimide foams, firstly, one or a few of dianhydrides dissolve in or suspend in the polyhydric alcohol and form the precursor A. All kinds of additives dissolve in the polyhydric alcohol and form the precursor B. The aromatic isocyanates with different structure mix well and form the precursor C. Finally the three precursors are mixed foaming by one-step, after solidify, the polyimide foams are obtained with advantage performance. The method does not utilize the volatile solvent that does not participate in the reaction, therefore not existing the process of removing the solvent, it can continuously produce with the double-side heat conveyor belt. CO2, the main gas producing in the reaction, causes the system to foam, thus there is no cost on the solvent recovery and it reduces the environment contamination.

Each porous particle includes a continuous polymeric phase and discrete pores; a mode particle size of 2-50 μm; and a porosity of 20-70 volume %. The continuous polymeric phase Tg is>80° C. and has a polymer viscosity of 80-500 centipoises at an ethyl acetate shear rate of 100 sec−1 at a concentration of 20 weight % at 25° C.

Abstract: A porous material includes a polyhexahydrotriazine material. Pores in the porous material can be of various sizes including nanoscale sizes. The porous material may be used in a variety of applications, such as those requiring materials with a high strength-to-weight ratio. The porous material can include a filler material dispersed therein. The filler material can be, for example, a particle, a fiber, a fabric, or the like. In some examples, the filler material can be a carbon fiber or a carbon nanotube. A method of making a porous material includes forming a resin including a polyhemiaminal or polyhexahydrotriazine component and a polythioaminal component. The resin can be heated to promote segregation of the components into different phases with predominately one or the other component in each phase. Processing of the resin after phase segregation to decompose the polythioaminal component can form pores in the resin.
