    Abstract: In one embodiment, a system for synchronizing switching comprises a first body coupled to a pressurized fluid supply and a control fluid supply, and a second body comprising a spool valve that is configured to be contained within a spool valve housing and movable between an open position and a closed position, a biasing element that is configured to bias the spool valve, and at least three fluid channels that are configured to be fluidly connected to the spool valve housing. The first body and the second body are configured for relative movement to each other. The spool valve is further configured to selectively control fluid communication among the fluid channels based on relative movement between the first body and the second body.

    Abstract: A bidirectional latch pin assembly can comprise a housing portion comprising a latch port. A latch pin in the latch port can comprise a stepped nose extending from a body portion. The stepped nose can comprise a first step and a second step. A spring can be biased against a guide mounted in the latch port and the spring can be configured to bias the latch pin to a first position extending the first step out of the latch port. A first actuation assembly can be configured to move the latch pin to a second position extending the first step and the second step out of the latch port. A second actuation assembly can be configured to move the latch pin to a third position pulling the first step and the second step into the latch port. A switchable rocker arm and a valvetrain assembly can be formed therewith.

    Abstract: An overhead cam engine system comprises a rotating overhead exhaust cam rail comprising a plurality of exhaust lobes. A first switching roller finger follower actuates a first exhaust valve, and is configured to switch between a first lift profile and a second lift profile. A second switching roller finger follower is coupled to actuate a second exhaust valve, and is configured to switch between a third lift profile and a fourth lift profile. The third and fourth lift profile are different than the first and second lift profile. An actuation assembly is connected to switch the first switching roller finger follower and the second switching roller finger follower to select between at least three exhaust lift modes to open and close the first exhaust valve and the second exhaust valve using combinations of the first, second, third and fourth lift profiles.

At least a portion of the first shaft is received in the second shaft, and the first shaft and the second shaft are controllable to rotate independently of one another, thereby to allow control of the latching arrangements of the dual body rocker arms on a per group basis.

    Abstract: A valve train assembly includes: at least one dual body rocker arm having a first body, a second body, a latching arrangement for latching and unlatching the first body and the second body, the latching arrangement having a latching pin that is biased to an unlatched configuration; and an actuator arrangement for controlling the latching arrangement, the actuator arrangement being able to contact the latching arrangement to cause the latching pin to be moved into a latched configuration in which it latches the first and second bodies together. In use, movement of the rocker arm under action of a cam to cause a valve event moves the actuator arrangement out of contact with the latching arrangement while a contact force between the latching pin and one or other of the first and second bodies maintains the latching pin in the latched configuration.

    Abstract: An actuation apparatus (3) for actuating a latching arrangement (40) of a switchable valve train component (2) of an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The actuation apparatus comprises a lever (33) for contacting an actuation source (100) and for contacting the latching arrangement (40), and a biasing means (31). The biasing means (31) contacts the lever (33). In use, the biasing means (31) becomes biased by the lever (33) when the actuation source moves the lever (33) when the actuation source (100) attempts to actuate the latching arrangement (40), via the lever (33), when the latching arrangement (40) is non-actuatable. The biasing means (31) causes the lever (33) to actuate the latching arrangement (40) when the latching arrangement (40) is actuatable again. Also disclosed is a valve-train assembly.
