Abstract:
A fuel additive composition comprising: (a) a polyalkylphenoxyaminoalkane having the formula: ##STR1## or a fuel soluble salt thereof, wherein R is a polyalkyl group having an average molecular weight in the range of about 600 to 5,000; R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently hydrogen or lower alkyl having 1 to 6 carbon atoms; and A is amino, N-alkyl amino having about 1 to about 20 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, N,N-dialkyl amino having about 1 to about 20 carbon atoms in each alkyl group, or a polyamine moiety having about 2 to about 12 amine nitrogen atoms and about 2 to about 40 carbon atoms; and (b) a poly(oxyalkylene) amine having at least one basic nitrogen atom and a sufficient number of oxyalkylene units to render the poly(oxyalkylene) amine soluble in hydrocarbons boiling in the gasoline or diesel fuel range. The fuel additive compositions of this invention are useful as fuel additives for the prevention and control of engine deposits.

Substituted biphenyl polyalkyl ethers having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen or hydroxyl; R.sub.2 is hydroxyl, cyano, nitro, amino, aminomethyl, N-alkylamino or N-alkylaminomethyl wherein the alkyl group contains 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, N,N-dialkylamino or N,N-dialkylaminomethyl wherein each alkyl group independently contains 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, with the proviso that R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are ortho relative to each other and meta or para relative to the adjoining phenyl substitutent; and R.sub.3 is a polyalkyl group having an average molecular weight in the range of about 450 to about 5,000. The subsitituted biphenyl polyalkyl ethers of the present invention are useful as fuel additives for the prevention and control of engine deposits.
Abstract:
A saturated polymer having a terminal aldehyde or hydroxy substituent which may be used directly or in a derivative form as a dispersant for both fuel and lubricating oil compositions, wherein the saturated polymer has a M.sub.n of about 300 to 10,000, and is derived from a polyolefin which is derived from a monomer of the formula H.sub.2 C.dbd.CHR.sup.4, wherein R.sup.4 is hydrogen or a straight or branched chain alkyl radical, and wherein the polyolefin has at least about 30% terminal vinylidene unsaturation. Particularly desirable amine derivatives can be formed by either a single step aminomethylation process or a two step hydroformylation and reductive amination process.

Substituted aromatic polyalkyl ethers having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 is a polyalkyl group having an average molecular weight of about 450 to about 5,000;A is nitro, amino, cyano, aminomethyl, N-alkylamino or N-alkylaminomethyl wherein the alkyl group contains from about 1 to about 6 carbon atoms, or N,N-dialkylamino or N,N-dialkylaminomethyl wherein each alkyl group independently contains from about 1 to about 6 carbon atomsx is an integer from about 0 to about 1; and y is an integer from about 0 to about 10 with the proviso that one of x and y must be 0 and the other must be greater than 0.The substituted aromatic polyalkyl ethers of the present invention are useful as fuel additives for the prevention and control of engine deposits.

A fuel composition comprising a major amount of hydrocarbons boiling in the gasoline or diesel range and an effective detergent amount of a compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a hydrocarbyl group having an average molecular weight of about 400 to 5,000; andR.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, hydroxy, --CO.sub.2 H, --NO.sub.2, and --NR.sub.3 R.sub.4, wherein R.sub.3 and R.sub.4 are independently hydrogen or lower alkyl of 1 to 6 carbon atoms; provided that R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 cannot both be hydrogen.

Mannich condensation products prepared by the condensation of a compound having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen, lower alkyl having 1 through 6 carbon atoms, hydroxy or lower alkoxy having 1 through 6 atoms; R.sup.1 is polyalkyl having an average molecular weight of about from 400 to 5000 and n is 0 or a whole integer of from 1 through 10 with ammonia, alkylamine, or polyamine and an aldehyde.The condensation products and their fuel-soluble salts are useful as fuel additives for the prevention and control of engine deposits.

An oil soluble dispersant additive useful in oleaginous compositions selected from fuels and lubricating oils comprising the reaction products of:(i) at least one intermediate adduct comprised of the reaction products of(a) at least one polyanhydride, and(b) at least one member selected from the group consisting of polyamines, polyols, and amino alcohols; and(ii) at least one member selected from the group consisting of(a) at least one long chain hydrocarbyl substituted C.sub.4 -C.sub.10 dicarboxylic acid producing material;(b) at least one long chain hydrocarbyl substituted hydroxy aromatic material and at least one aldehyde; or(c) at least one aldehyde and at least one reaction product of a hydrocarbyl substituted C.sub.3 -C.sub.10 monocarboxylic or C.sub.4 -C.sub.10 dicarboxylic acid or anhydride and an amine substituted hydroxy aromatic compound.Also disclosed are oleaginous compositions, particularly lubricating oil compositions, containing these oil soluble dispersants.

The present invention is directed to oil-soluble lubricating oil additives comprising borated Mannich Base condensates of an alkyl substituted hydroxy aromatic compound with formaldehyde and an amine, wherein the alkyl-moiety of the aromatic compounds is derived from at least one ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer of 300 to 20,000 number average molecular weight, wherein at least about 30% of the polymer's chains contain terminal ethenylidene unsaturation. The borated Mannich Base condensates of this invention are useful as dispersants.

Poly(alkylene ether) amines having the formula: ##STR1## wherein A is an amine moiety having at least one basic nitrogen atom; R.sub.1 is a hydrocarbyl group having a sufficient number of carbon atoms to render the poly(vinyl ether) amine soluble in hydrocarbons boiling in the gasoline or diesel fuel range; R.sub.2 is an alkylene group having 2 to about 8 carbon atoms; R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, R.sub.6, R.sub.7 and R.sub.8 are each independently hydrogen or a lower alkyl group having 1 to about 4 carbon atoms; R.sub.9 is an alkyl group having 1 to about 10 carbon atoms; m is 0 or 1; and n is an integer from 5 to 99. The poly(vinyl ether) amines of formula I are useful as fuel additives for the prevention and control of engine deposits.

An amido alkanolamine composition obtained by reacting, at a temperature of 10.degree. C.-200.degree. C.:(a) a 4-alkyl-2-morpholinone represented by the formula: ##STR1## in which R represents a monovalent aliphatic radical having from 1 to 10 carbon atoms, and(b) an alkylphenoxypolyoxyalkylene amine represented by the formula: ##STR2## in which R' represents a hydrocarbyl radical having from 4 to 30 carbon atoms, x has a value from 5 to 50, and R" represents a methyl radical or a mixture of hydrogen and methyl radicals is provided.
