The application supplied to the user terminal includes a common user interface part that provides a user interface through which the user can select a device from amongst the plural heterogeneous devices, and the common user interface part then configures the user interface for access to the functionalities of the selected device.

This invention also provides a second communication apparatus which makes a facsimile communication via a packet communication network and has a first mode in which image header information such as a date, time, source information, destination information, and the like can be described in image data having a predetermined number of pixels and can send the image data, and a second mode in which image data having one of various resolutions and an indefinite number of pixels can be sent.

An energy saving setting unit controls an image forming apparatus that makes a transition to a power saving state if a transition time passes without any prescribed operation in a normal state, and it includes: a unit for storing specific day information distinguishing a normal operation day and a specific day; an auto pattern updating unit determining the transition time in a normal operation day based on past operational status of the normal operation day of the image forming apparatus; a specific day pattern registering unit receiving and storing setting of the transition time of the specific day; and a switching unit, switching the state of conduction of the image forming apparatus using the transition time determined by the auto pattern updating unit and the stored transition time, on the normal operation day and on the specific day, respectively, based on the specific day information.

In a system including a communication apparatus having a facsimile function and a relay apparatus connected to the communication apparatus via a communication network, a user directly operates the communication apparatus, thereby preventing the communication apparatus from executing inefficient processing in the entire system. The relay apparatus controls the facsimile function of the communication apparatus that has established communication with the relay apparatus to enable transmission and reception of image data. Furthermore, the relay apparatus restricts execution of the facsimile function of the communication apparatus other than facsimile transmission of the image data transferred from the relay apparatus.

To create a job flow having machine type dependence and commonly usable among different types of devices, a CPU of a client PC displays first task information relating to tasks usable in a first print processing device and creates a first task cooperative job flow executable in the first print processing device. Then, the CPU of the client PC creates definition information of the first task cooperative job flow based on an edit instruction entered using the first task information. Furthermore, the CPU of the client PC produces definition information of a second task cooperative job flow executable in a second task processing device based on the definition information of the created first cooperative job flow as well as based on second task information relating to tasks usable in the second print processing device.
