An output cam is provided to open and close a valve actuator for opening/closing, and a connection link is rotatably connected to the control link, and driving the output cam by the rotation of the input cam. A cam cap is disposed where the camshaft and the eccentric control shaft are mounted. The cylinder air volume difference adjuster includes a hinge pin serving as the rotational center of the output cam disposed parallel to the camshaft, a pin holder where the hinge pin is mounted, and an adjusting bolt for selectively shifting the position of the pin holder.

A camshaft for an internal combustion engine may include a shaft and at least one component that is joined to said shaft. The component may be connected via a joint surface of the component to a joint surface of the shaft. At least one of the joint surface of the component and the joint surface of the shaft may have a predefined roughness only partially on load-critical regions.
Abstract:
Methods are provided for improved control of valve activation/deactivation mechanisms. One example method comprises, adjusting an electromechanical actuator to actuate cylinder valve deactivation/activation mechanisms. The actuator is operated at multiple levels based on engine operating conditions.
Abstract:
A ‘Blackburn Cycle’ internal combustion engine has maximised ‘air only’ induction and ‘air only’ exhaust strokes between usual 4 stroke cycles. One or more inlet valves open fully via lever 7 for the alternate ‘air only’ inductions. The travel for the next fuel/air induction through the same inlet valve 13 is varied by variable fulcrum 10 acting on rocker 8 via push rod 11. This gives controllable fuel/air inductions without the need for a throttle. An inlet valve opens twice with one cam form and one cam revolution. Fuel is injected directly into the cylinder as required for the usual 4 stroke cycles between the ‘air only’ cycles.
Abstract:
A variable valve device of the invention has a structure in which, as connecting means for connecting a movable cam 22 located in an outer periphery of an outer camshaft 17a and an inner camshaft 17b located inside the outer camshaft 17a, there are provided a pin-like member 24 that is movably inserted so as to penetrate the movable cam 22, the outer camshaft 17a and the inner camshaft 17b along a diametrical direction of a shaft member 17 that is formed by turnably encasing the inner camshaft 17b in the outer camshaft 17a, and an escape-preventing portion 50 disposed in the end portion of the pin-like member 24. The movable cam 22 and the inner camshaft 17b are thus connected together while preventing large press-fit load and axial force from acting on components.
Abstract:
A valve actuating cam has a periphery that can be varied in shape to control the opening and closing of one or more valves associated with a cylinder of an internal combustion engine. One portion of a valve assembly can be moved outwardly to change the valve lift. A band can surround the movable cam portion and cam body portion, and can form at least a major portion of the exterior surface of the cam that engages a cam follower such as a valve operating rocker arm. The timing of the opening and closing of one or more valves can be adjusted by adjusting the peripheral shape of the cam. The shape can be adjusted to start a ramp portion of the cam peripheral surface earlier to cause a valve to open earlier and to end a ramp portion later to cause the valve to close later with a first load on the engine and to open and close earlier when the engine is under a second load that is less than the first load. Wedges and wedging surfaces under the band and movable with the movable portion of the cam can be used to adjust the timing.
Abstract:
A valve train for an internal combustion engine for actuating gas exchange valves includes a camshaft in the form of a camshaft tube driven by a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine. A selector shaft is disposed in the camshaft tube. A surface of the selector shaft includes a shifting contour having an axial gradient. At least one cam carrier is disposed on the camshaft and axially displaceable but rotationally fixed with respect to the camshaft. Each cam carrier includes an identical base-circle portion and a plurality of cam profiles. A rotationally fixed but axially displaceable shifting sleeve is disposed between the camshaft tube and the rotatable selector shaft of each cam carrier. Each shifting sleeve includes a hole. A shilling ball is disposed in the hole of each shifting sleeve. The shifting ball is coupled with the shifting contour of the selector shaft so as to be guided by the selector shaft so as to axially displace the shifting sleeve by rotation of the selector shaft. The shifting sleeve is operatively connected to the cam carrier via at least a driver for axial displacement of the cam carrier.
Abstract:
A camshaft may include a first shaft, a stop member, and a first lobe member. The first shaft may include an outer radial surface having a first recess extending radially therein. The stop member may be axially fixed within the first recess. The first lobe member may define an inner bore located on the outer radial surface of the first shaft. The first lobe member may include a second recess extending radially into the inner bore. The stop member may extend into the second recess to axially locate the first lobe member on the first shaft.
Abstract:
An object of the present invention is to decrease the size of rocker arms and reduce friction in a variable valve apparatus of an internal combustion engine having a hydraulic lash adjuster arranged in rocker arms. A variable valve apparatus of an internal combustion engine of the present invention includes a first rocker arm that contacts a cam, a zero lift cam (low lift cam) provided coaxially with the cam, second rocker arms capable of contacting the zero lift cam, a switching mechanism capable of connecting the first rocker arm and the second rocker arm to each other through a pin, valves that open by being pressed by the second rocker arms via hydraulic lash adjusters arranged in the second rocker arms, and an oil supply path formed inside the second rocker arms that supplies oil to the hydraulic lash adjusters. A radius of a base circle of the zero lift cam is smaller than a radius of a base circle of the cam.
