Abstract:
Compositions comprising hydroxy-substituted monolactones, a process for reacting olefinic compounds with certain carboxylic reactants and products prepared by the process. The compositions containing the hydroxy-substituted lactones and the products of the process are useful as intermediates for the preparation of additives for lubricants and fuels.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a process for preparing a condensation product of a glyoxylic reactant and a hydrocarbyl-substituted aromatic compound having at least one hydroxy functionality, which includes (a) providing the glyoxylic reactant in the form of a compound represented by the formula ##STR1## or its reactive equivalent, wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.3 independently are hydrogen or hydrocarbyl group of 1 to about 4 carbon atoms; and R.sup.2 and R.sup.4 independently are hydrocarbyl groups of 1 to about 4 carbon atoms; (b) mixing the aromatic compound with the glyoxylic reactant; and (c) heating the mixture to a temperature of about 50.degree. C. to about 200.degree. C. in the presence of an acid catalyst for a sufficient time to form the condensation product.
Abstract:
A process for reacting certain carboxylic reactants and at least one aldehyde or ketone with olefinic compounds then reacting the product prepared thereby with ammonia, a hydrazine or an amine, products prepared thereby and, additive concentrates, lubricating oil and fuel compositions.
Abstract:
Compositions of matter for use in oils and fuels are disclosed. The compositions arise from reaction products (C) formed by reacting substituted carboxylic acylating agents (A) with carboxylic reactants (B). The reactant (A) is usually a polyolefin substituted succinic anhydride or acid which is reacted with (B). (B) is usually a glyoxylic compound. Carboxylic reaction products (C) may further be reacted to form succinimide dispersants, esters or other derivatives. Products (C) may also be reacted with an .alpha.-.beta. unsaturated compound to form second carboxylic reaction products.
Abstract:
A process for reacting olefinic compounds, certain carboxylic reactants, and aldehydes or ketones and products prepared by the process. The compositions of the process are useful as intermediates for the preparation of additives for lubricants and fuels.
Abstract:
Compositions represented by the structures ##STR1## where Ar represents an aromatic group, each R is independently a hydrocarbyl group, at least one R having more than 12 carbon atoms, a is 1 to 4, and R' is hydrogen or alkyl, are useful as lubricant and fuel additives and as intermediates for the preparation of derivatives useful as such additives.
Abstract:
Compositions comprising unsaturated hydroxycarboxylic compounds, a process for reacting olefinic compounds with carboxylic reagents and products prepared by the process. The compositions containing the hydroxycarboxylic compounds and the products of the process are useful as intermediates for preparing additives for lubricants and fuels.
Abstract:
Compositions comprising hydroxyl group containing acylated nitrogen compounds, a process for reacting certain carboxylic reactants with olefinic compounds then reacting the product prepared thereby with ammonia, a hydrazine or an amine, products prepared thereby and lubricating oil and fuel compositions.
Abstract:
A process for preparing an amide of a bis (hydrocarbyl substituted hydroxyaryl) acetic acid by reacting a lactone produced in the reaction between the glyoxylic acid and phenol with a polyamine in the presence of an alcohol solvent is disclosed.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a lubricating composition containing an oil of lubricating viscosity and a dimercaptothiadiazole salt of a copolymer comprising units derived from monomers (i) an ?-olefin and (ii) an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid or derivatives thereof (typically carboxylic acid groups or an anhydride), are partially esterified with an alcohol, or mixtures thereof, and wherein at least a portion of carboxylic acid groups not esterified are reacted with an amine. The invention further provides for a lubricating composition containing said copolymer. The invention further provides a method and use of lubricating composition in a mechanical device.
