Abstract: A method of utilizing an 8-bit primary transform core matrix to decode compressed video or image data or encode uncompressed video or image data. The method may include determining whether to use a first transform core matrix that is of a first size type or a second transform core matrix that is of a second size type that is smaller than the first size type. When a result of the determination is to use the first transform core matrix, encoding or decoding the target file using the 8-bit primary transform core matrix that has the size that is 64-point or larger. If not, the method may include extracting the second transform core matrix of the second size type from the first transform matrix and encoding or decoding the target file using the extracted second transform core matrix.

Abstract: The various implementations described herein include methods and systems for coding video. In one aspect, a method includes receiving a video bitstream including a current coding block in a current image frame, obtaining a syntax element value, and determining whether the current coding block is coded with a warped motion mode or a translational motion mode based on the syntax element value. The method further includes in accordance with a determination that the current coding block is coded with the warped motion mode, selecting a first motion vector difference (MVD) setting for the current coding block; in accordance with a determination that the current coding block is coded with the translational motion mode, selecting a second MVD setting distinct from the second MVD setting for the current coding block; and reconstructing the current coding block based at least in part on the selected MVD setting for the current coding block.

Abstract: A method performed by a video decoder includes receiving a coded video bitstream including a current picture, a first reference picture, a second reference picture, and a joint motion vector difference (JMVD) associated with at least one block in the current picture. The method includes determining whether one or more scaling factors are used for an adaptive motion vector difference resolution (AMVD) based JMVD based on a predetermined condition. The method includes, in response to determining the one or more scaling factors are used for the AMVD based JMVD, scaling the JMVD based on the one or more scaling factors. The method includes deriving a first MVD for the first reference picture based on the scaled JMVD. The method includes deriving a second MVD for the second reference picture based on the derived first MVD. The method includes reconstructing the at least one block based on the derived first MVD and the derived second MVD.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide a method and an apparatus including processing circuitry that obtaining prediction information indicating whether a current block is coded in a subblock-based temporal motion vector prediction (SbTMVP) mode. If the current block is coded in the SbTMVP mode, whether a subblock in a plurality of subblocks of the current block is bi-predicted is determined. If the subblock is bi-predicted, motion information of the subblock is determined based on the SbTMVP mode. At least one of (i) a bilateral matching (BM)-based motion vector (MV) refinement and (ii) a bi-directional optical flow (BDOF) mode is applied to the subblock to refine the motion information of the subblock. The current block is reconstructed based on refined motion information corresponding to one or more subblocks in the plurality of subblocks. The refined motion information corresponding to the one or more subblocks includes the refined motion information of the subblock.

Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure provide methods and apparatuses for video encoding/decoding. In some examples, processing circuitry receives a coded video bitstream including a current picture. The current picture includes a chroma block in a chroma separate tree, the chroma block being collocated in a same luma area with one or more luma blocks. The processing circuitry decodes, from the coded video bitstream, a syntax element that indicates a current picture referencing (CPR) mode for the chroma block, and determines, in response to the CPR mode, a chroma block vector for the chroma block according to one or more luma block vectors associated with the one or more luma blocks. The chroma block vector indicates a reference chroma block in the current picture. The processing circuitry reconstructs the chroma block based on the reference chroma block in the current picture.

A method includes receiving a coded video bitstream including a plurality of syntax elements; determining a first maximum alphabet size for arithmetic coding by an arithmetic coding engine, the first maximum alphabet size determined based on a hardware constraint; determining a second maximum alphabet size that is less than the first maximum alphabet size; and decoding the plurality of syntax elements included in the coded video bitstream, based on the determined second maximum alphabet size, wherein each of the plurality of syntax elements is entropy coded with an alphabet size less than or equal to the determined second maximum alphabet size.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to a transform kernel sharing in video encoding and decoding. For example, a method is disclosed for such transform kernel sharing. The method may include identifying a plurality of transform kernels, wherein each of the plurality of transform kernels comprises a set of basis vectors from low to high frequencies; N high-frequency basis vectors of two or more of the plurality of transform kernels are shared, N being a positive integer; and low-frequency basis vectors of the two or more of the plurality of the transform kernels other than the N high-frequency basis vectors are individualized. The method may further include extracting a data block from a video bitstream; selecting a transform kernel from the plurality of transform kernels based on information associated with the data block; and applying the transform kernel to at least a portion of the data block to generate a transformed block.

A filter shape configuration of a video filter is determined based on the filter shape index information. The filter shape index information indicates that a number of filter taps of the filter shape configuration is less than five. Offset values associated with the filter shape configuration of the video filter are determined. The video filter is applied on a sample based on the offset values associated with the filter shape configuration.
