    Abstract: An example method of video coding includes receiving a video bitstream for a plurality of coding blocks. The method also includes identifying, based on a first indicator in the video bitstream, a coding region that includes two or more coding blocks of the plurality of coding blocks, where each coding block in the coding region is encoded in an intra prediction mode. The method further includes applying a first partitioning for luma blocks in the coding region, applying a second partitioning for chroma blocks in the coding region, where the second partitioning is different from the first partitioning, and reconstructing the two or more coding blocks of the coding region using the first partitioning and the second partitioning.

    Abstract: An example method of video coding includes receiving a video bitstream that includes a plurality of blocks. The method also includes determining a scanning order for a motion vector list for a first block of the plurality of blocks based on one or more of: a number of neighboring blocks of the current block with corresponding temporal motion vectors, a number of neighboring blocks of the current block encoded in an inter prediction mode, a mode of the current block, and a reference frame index for the current block. The method further includes generating the motion vector list according to the scanning order and identifying, from the motion vector list, a motion vector predictor for the current block. The method also includes decoding the current block using the identified motion vector predictor.

    Abstract: This disclosure relates generally to video coding and particularly to methods, devices, and systems for signaling prediction modes in recursively partitioned video frames. For example, a regional prediction mode flag syntax element may be introduced for indicating whether an entire coding region of a video frame signaled as being of a first predefined prediction mode is entirely coded in a second predefined prediction mode or not. The signaling schemes described in this disclosure facilitate reducing signaling overhead in video frames that employ a mix of different prediction modes.

    Abstract: This disclosure generally describes a set of advanced video coding technologies, and is specifically related to cross-component sample offset (CCSO) filtering. For example, a CCSO filter having fractional CCSO filtering tap positions may be used to generate sample offsets from one color component of a reconstructed video. The sample offsets may then be applied to a second color component of the reconstructed video. The reconstructed samples of the first color component may first be interpolated by an interpolation filter in order to generate interpolated samples of the first color component at the fractional CCSO tap positions. The interpolated samples may be used as input to the CCSO filter for the generation of the sample offsets.

    Abstract: This disclosure relates generally to video coding and particularly to methods and systems for deriving context adaptive interpolation filter used for generating prediction samples in inter prediction involving a fractional motion vector or block vector. For example, an encoder and a decoder may derive interpolation filters adaptively using reconstructed samples. The reconstructed samples may belong to templates near a current block and a reference block related by the motion vector or block vector. The derivation of the adaptive interpolation filters may be based on minimizing distortions between interpolated templates associated with the reference block and the templates associated with the current block.

    Abstract: An apparatus for video decoding includes receiving circuitry and processing circuitry. The processing circuitry decodes prediction information for a current block in a current picture from a coded video bitstream, the prediction information being indicative of a prediction mode that is based on an expanded motion vector candidate list. The processing circuitry expands the current block to generate an expanded block by iteratively (i) increasing a width of the current block by a first grid size and (ii) increasing a height of the current block by a second grid size until a number of iterations is equal to a value indicative of a maximum search round. The processing circuitry searches and locates, in the expanded block, a plurality of blocks and constructs, in response to the prediction mode, the expanded motion vector candidate list.

    Abstract: The various implementations described herein include methods and systems for coding video. In one aspect, a method includes receiving a video bitstream comprising a set of encoded video information and a first indicator associated with a plurality of probability models. The method includes determining a value of the first indicator by parsing the video bitstream. The method includes, when the first indicator has a first value, selecting a first probability model from the plurality of probability models and when the first indicator has a second value, selecting a second probability model from the plurality of probability models, the second probability model being different from the first probability model. The method also includes entropy decoding the set of encoded video information using the selected probability model.
