Abstract: A method of reducing the aggregation and deposition of asphaltene from a fluid containing asphaltene, such as crude oil, which method comprises the addition to the fluid of a compound of formula (I): wherein A is an optionally substituted ring system containing 6 to 14 carbon atoms; n is at least 1 and may equal the number of positions available for substitution in A; each X is independently a linker group; and each R is independently a hydrocarbyl group containing 10 to 25 carbon atoms.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a stable blended diesel fuel comprising an olefinic diesel fuel blending stock. The olefinic diesel fuel blending stock of the invention comprises olefins in an amount of 2 to 80 weight percent, non-olefins in an amount of 20 to 98 weight percent wherein the non-olefins are substantially comprised of paraffins, oxygenates in an amount of at least 0.012 weight percent and sulfur in an amount of less than 1 ppm. To provide acceptable stability, the blended diesel fuel comprising the olefinic diesel fuel blending stock comprises a sulfur-free antioxidant. The blended diesel fuel comprising the olefinic diesel fuel blending stock and sulfur-free antioxidant added has a peroxide content of less than 5 ppm when stored at 60null C. for 4 weeks. The present invention also relates to processes for making the stable blended diesel fuel and olefinic diesel fuel blending stocks as defined above.

Abstract: This invention provides a fuel composition having a sulphur content of not more than 50 ppm by weight and comprising at least 50 ppm based on the total weight of the fuel composition of at least one fused polycyclic aromatic compound which comprises at least one exocyclic group containing nitrogen wherein the nitrogen is attached directly to a ring carbon atom. Specific examples of such compounds include 1-amino naphthalene, 1,8-diaminonaphthalene, or 5-aminoindole, 2-(2-aminophenyl)indole and 8-aminoquinoline. These compounds are capable of improving the antiwear and lubricity properties of a low sulphur fuel when compared with that of the same fuel in the absence of such compounds.

Abstract: The present invention is a demulsifying and corrosion-inhibiting compound formed from the salt of an amphiphilic amine and an amphiphilic acid. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the demulsifier may be a salt of an alkyl amine and an alkyl aryl sulfonic acid. Even more preferably, the demulsifier may be a salt of a methyl, di-cocoyl amine and an alkyl aryl sulfonic acid. According to another embodiment of the invention, an organic system may be demulsified by mixing the salt of an alkyl amine and an alkyl sulfonic acid with the system to be demulsified.

Abstract: Inhibitors of wax deposition for crude oils are polymers of a monomer with structural units derived from at least one ester (i) of an aliphatic carboxylic acid with an aliphatic alcohol, wherein one of the acid and alcohol is ethylenically unsaturated and the other of the acid and alcohol has a long chain group of 14-40 carbons, and a monomer with structural units derived from a corresponding ester (3) with structural units derived from an aliphatic carboxylic acid and an aliphatic alcohol, wherein one of the acid and alcohol is ethylenically unsaturated and the other has an aliphatic group of 1-13 carbons, such that at least 30% preferably 50-90% of the said aliphatic groups have 15-35 carbons. They are preferably made by transesterification. Blends of such polymers and/or the corresponding homopolymers or copolymers of ester 1 and/or polyalkylene imines with long side chains, and optionally with monomeric polar additives may be used as inhibitors.

Abstract: Unleaded aviation gasolines of enhanced properties are described. They satisfy at least the octane and heat content specifications of ASTM D 910-90. Also described are unleaded aviation gasolines which satisfy all of the specifications of ASTM D 910-90. The fuels also prevent or at least inhibit exhaust valve recession or wear during use in aviation engines, especially those designed to operate on leaded aviation fuel. The fuels of the invention contain a cyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl compound. Preferably the fuels are made up of a blend of at least about 80% by volume of aviation alkylate gasoline, up to about 10% by volume of a gasoline-soluble dialkyl ether gasoline blending agent, from about 0.25 to about 0.60 grams of manganese per gallon as at least one cyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl compound, and optionally up to about 15% by volume of aromatic gasoline hydrocarbons, these being proportioned such that the fuel possesses at least the octane qualities and heat contents called for by ASTM Specification D 910-90.
