Abstract:
Novel copolymers of unsaturated acidic reactants and high molecular weight olefins are useful as dispersants in lubricating oils and fuels and also may be used to prepare polysuccinimides and other post-treated additives useful in lubricating oils and fuels. The ratio of anhydride groups to the hydrocarbon groups in these novel copolymers is at least 1.3.
Abstract:
Fuel compositions for internal combustion engines comprising a gasoline, a hydrocarbon-soluble allotropic form of carbon, and optionally a dispersing agent are provided. Two-cycle engines operated utilizing the fuel compositions provided herein emit lessened amounts of undesirable hydrocarbon exhaust gas emissions.
Abstract:
Fuel compositions for internal combustion engines and more particularly, fuel compositions for 2-cycle internal combustion engines comprising a gasoline, a hydrocarbon-soluble allotropic form of carbon, and a dispersing agent are provided. Engines operated utilizing the fuel compositions provided produce considerably lessened amounts of undesirable exhaust gas emmissions.
Abstract:
Oil soluble viscosity index improving additives comprising ethylene compolymers such as copolymers of ethylene and propylene; and ethylene, propylene and diolefin; etc. reacted or grafted with ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid moieties, preferably maleic anhydride moieties, and reacted with amines having two or more primary amine groups or at least one primary amine group and at least one secondary amine group and a carboxylic acid component, preferably alkylene polyamine and with alkenyl succinic anhydride such as polyisobutenyl succinic anhydride, are improved by being further reacted with a lactone, preferably a lactone having at least 6 atoms in the lactone ring. The resulting lactone modified products are useful per se as oil soluble V.I. additives in fuel and lubricating compositions including concentrates containing the additives.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for the degradation of a hydrocarbon, preferably jet fuel solutions, having anti-misting properties in which the hydrocarbon solution contains a copolymer of an alpha-olefin and vinyl alkylenecarboxylic acid.
Abstract:
The dissemination of gas turbine engine aviation fuels under shock conditions, particularly by forming mist particles, and the accompanying fire hazard, are reduced by dissolving in the fuel a soluble polymer of molecular weight greater than 10.sup.6 in such concentration that there is molecular overlap of the dissolved polymer in the fuel, the dissolved polymer being one containing polar groups which form bonds with each other when the fuel is subjected to shock.
Abstract:
The flow properties of waxy crude oils are improved by the incorporation therein of a copolymer of (1) an olefinically unsaturated compound containing a long hydrocarbon side chain and (2) an olefinically unsaturated heterocyclic nitrogen-containing compound, e.g., 4-vinyl pyridine.
Abstract:

SUITABLE FOR USE IN GAS TURBINE ENGINED AIRCRAFT, AND HAVING A REFUCED TENDENCY TO PARTICULATE DISSEMINATION ON BEING SUBJECTED TO SHOCK, THE FUEL CONTAINING THEREIN POLYMER OF MOLECULAR WEIGHT GREATER THAN 10**6 (VISCOSITY AVERAGE) OR OF INTRINSIC VISCOSITY REATER THAN 2.5 DLS./GM. IN A CONCENTRATION SUCH THAT THERE IS MOLECULAR OVERLAP OF THE POLYMER MOLECULES IN THE LIQUID, THE DISSOLVED POLYMER CONTAINING POLAR GROUPS WHICH FORM INTER-MOLLECULAR ASSOCIATIVE BONDS ARISING FROM ELECTROSTATIC ATTRACTION BETWEEN POLAR AND/OR DIPOLAR CHARGES IN THE POLAR GROUPS, THE BONDS BEING HYDROGEN OR ELECTOVALENT BONDS, THE POLYMER BEING AN ADDITION COPLYMER OF AN ALKYL STYRENE, THE ALKYL GROUP IN WHICH CONTAINS FROM 3 TO 20 CARBON ATOMS.
