A rendering method, system and program product. A single functional instruction among a plurality of functional instructions can be provided by a rendering device and selected by a user in order to scan a document platen associated with the rendering device, thereby creating via the rendering device, a representation of the scanned documents. The representation of documents can be automatically divided into a left half and a right half. Thereafter, the representation of the documents can be rendered such that the left half and the right half of the representation of the documents are rendered on separate substrates, thereby creating a full glass scan to simplex copy of the documents.

A scanner which is connected via network or locally connected to a printer for realizing a copying function by outputting a scanned image to the printer as a copy job, the scanner, comprises a menu display that displays an operation menu of the copying function on a display portion; a capability information reception unit that receives capability information from the printer; an available setting item determination unit that determines print setting items relating to the copying function that can be provided, based on the capability information; and a display controller that selectively displays display contents of the operation menu displayed by the menu display, based on the setting items determined by the available setting item determination unit.

Collective transmission of image data for a same destination, containing one-side and two-side originals in mixed manner is enabled without deteriorating the interchangeability of a facsimile communication.A one-touch dial memory is rendered capable of storing timer transmission data, and, when the memory transmission is designated by a one-touch key of an operation unit, two-side and one-side images are read and are stored in an image memory. When the image data of plural sets are to be transmitted to the same destination at a designated time, such image data of plural sets are collectively transmitted to the same destination by separately connecting the calling between the set of the two-side images and that of the one-side images.

The present invention aims to effectively utilize a memory by changing a recording system for received images in accordance with a remaining amount of the memory. When images received by a facsimile are printed, in accordance with the memory remaining amount, images are read out from storing means and are recorded by recording means in such a manner that, after a predetermined number of one sides of recording media are successively recorded, the recording medium is directed into a recording medium reverse-rotating mechanism, and one side of another recording medium until the recording medium is picked up from the reverse-rotating mechanism and is recorded so as to record the other side of the recording medium. Further, in accordance with the memory remaining amount, front and back sides of the recording medium can be read out and recorded alternately, or only one sides of the recording media can be recorded.

A system and method are provided for adaptively controlling print options in a print system. The method comprises: accepting an imaging job; determining the imaging job characteristics; determining an imaging system's capabilities; matching system capabilities to job characteristics; and, performing the job on an imaging device. Determining job characteristics may involve determining the optimal print media, ink chemistry, or image processing. The imaging job characteristics may be determined by examining the print driver print stream to determine the file type, enacting a user interface dialog with the user, receiving pre-determined imaging job characteristics from a device driver embedded in a PRN image file, or-receiving pre-determined imaging job characteristics from a device driver embedded in a job stream. Determining the system capabilities may include determining the available print media, available inks, available image processes, or imaging device firmware.

An image processing apparatus and method are provided which permit cooperation of a plurality of image input/output units having image data input and/or output functions. The apparatus is connected to another device using a communication line, and receives image processing conditions from the other device. The apparatus processes image information transferred from the other device in accordance with the image processing conditions. When image processing is inexecutable under those conditions, the apparatus transmits executable image processing conditions in place of those received from the other device.

Original sheets in which both-side image information and one-side image information exist mixedly can be efficiently and certainly transmitted without an erroneous operation. A CPU discriminates the presence or absence of effective image information in images on both sides of the original sheets read by a reading circuit. In a both-side transmitting mode, the CPU selectively determines whether a both-side transmitting procedure is used or a one-side transmitting procedure is used, for transmission of the image information for each transmission of one original sheet, in accordance with a result of the discrimination. In the both-side transmitting procedure, control information such as page number, information regarding the front or reverse side of the original sheet, and the like is transmitted to a receiver station, for each side of the original sheet. In the one-side transmitting procedure, the control information is not transmitted or a proper transmitting system is used (the page number to be allocated to the front side assuming that the original sheet is the both-side original sheet is used, or the like). When the number of one-side original sheets is small, all of the original sheets are transmitted by using the both-side transmitting procedure.

A system and method for scanning a medium and reproducing an image of the medium includes a first scanner adapted to scan a first side of the medium and a second scanner adapted to scan a second side of the medium. As such, the first scanner detects one of a presence and an absence of a first image on the first side of the medium and the second scanner detects one of a presence and an absence of a second image on the second side of the medium.

In a mirror image print mode in which the image of an original document D set on a document table is printed on a copying paper with the image of the original document reversed, the direction of the sub-scanning executed by the read section is switched to a direction (reverse direction X′) opposite to the normal direction.
