Abstract: A method of sorting cargo using an automated guided vehicle is provided. The method of sorting cargo includes: recognizing the pieces of cargo; assigning a location of a carrier pocket into which the recognized cargo is loaded among the plurality of carrier pockets in the automated guided vehicle and a location of the destination chute from which the carrier pocket discharges the cargo; loading the cargo into the location of the assigned carrier pocket; for consecutively supplied pieces of cargo thereafter, repeatedly performing identifier information recognition of the cargo, location assignment, and cargo loading sequentially; sequentially discharging the pieces of cargo to the locations of the assigned destination chutes by allowing the automated guided vehicle into which all pieces of cargo are loaded to start and move along a movement path; and returning the automated guided vehicle after the automated guided vehicle has finished discharging.

Abstract: An automated storage and retrieval system includes a rail system including a first set of parallel tracks arranged in a horizontal plane and extending in a first direction, and a second set of parallel tracks arranged in the horizontal plane and extending in a second direction which is orthogonal to the first direction. The first and second sets of tracks form a grid pattern in the horizontal plane including a plurality of adjacent grid cells. Each adjacent grid cell includes a grid opening defined by a pair of neighboring tracks of the first set of tracks and a pair of neighboring tracks of the second set of tracks; and a plurality of stacks of storage containers arranged in storage columns located beneath the rail system. Each storage column is located vertically below a grid opening. A container handling vehicle includes a transport mechanism for transport of the vehicle on the rail system, a lifting assembly for picking up storage containers from the storage columns to a position above the lowest level of the transport mechanism. The lifting assembly includes a lifting frame connectable to a storage container, a first lifting shaft and a second lifting shaft. The first and second lifting shafts are mainly parallel, and each of the first and second lifting shafts are supported in an upper portion of the vehicle. Two lifting elements extend from each of the first and second lifting shafts to the lifting frame. A motor drive assembly includes at least a first motor, and a force transferring assembly rotatably connecting the first and second lifting shafts via a force transferring element.

Abstract: A higher throughput is an increasingly necessary requirement for driverless transport systems with a plurality of driverless transport vehicles. In arrangements with inclined roadways, resuming a movement is problematic in that doing so has hitherto only been possible with a limited arrangement of the roadways and/or with highly dimensioned drives. The novel method provides for moving a driverless transport vehicle on an inclined transport roadway, wherein the steering drives are actuated on the basis of the detected inclination direction in order to move the vehicle such that the transport vehicle is moved transversely to the inclination direction. After a specified minimum speed of the transport vehicle transversely to the inclination direction is reached, the steering drives are adjusted such that the transport vehicle continues to move in the inclination direction.

Abstract: A method and a system for traversing a planned path in a marked facility are provided. A transport vehicle transits from a first location to a second location in the marked facility for traversing the planned path. The first and second locations are indicated by first and second location markers, respectively. The transport vehicle records a movement pattern of the transport vehicle, while transiting from the first location to the second location. The transport vehicle halts at an intermediate location when the transport vehicle fails to detect the second location marker at the second location. A first path traversed to reach the intermediate location from the first location is retraced by the transport vehicle based on the recorded movement pattern. On reaching the first location, the transport vehicle re-attempts to transit from the first location to the second location.

Abstract: A process for automating control of an industrial vehicle based on location comprises scanning an environment in a travel direction of the industrial vehicle, by using an optical scanner affixed to the industrial vehicle. A marker defined by a series of tags is identified by recursively receiving a reflection of the optical scanner; determining if the reflection is indicative of an optical tag; and concatenating the indication of an optical tag to the marker. Once the marker is identified, the marker is transformed into an environmental condition and a status of the vehicle is determined, where the status correlates to the environmental condition. Further, an automated control is applied on the industrial vehicle based on the environmental condition and the status of the industrial vehicle.
