Abstract: A mechanism of monitoring activity on a computer which may be applied to measuring the performance of the computer. The computer is configured to track a first set of information relating to at least a first occurrence of at least one scenario on the computer. At least some of the first set of information is evaluated to make a determination about the first occurrence of the scenario. Based on that determination, the computer may be configured to track a second set of information relating to at least a second occurrence of the scenario on the computer, in which the second set of to information includes at least some types of information not tracked in the first set of information. The second set of information can then be evaluated.

Abstract: A host swap hypervisor provides a high availability hypervisor for virtual machines on a physical host computer during a failure of a primary hypervisor on the physical host computer. The host swap hypervisor resides on the physical host computer that runs the primary hypervisor, and monitors failure indicators of the primary hypervisor. When the failure indicators exceed a threshold, the host swap hypervisor is then autonomically swapped to become the primary hypervisor on the physical host computer. The original primary hypervisor may then be re-initialized as the new host swap hypervisor.

Abstract: A method, system, and/or computer program product manages a distributed denial of service attack in a multiprocessor environment. A determination is made of (a) a first upper threshold for a normal number of packets from the multiprocessor environment to multiple destination addresses, (b) a second upper threshold for a normal ratio of the packets from the multiprocessor environment to a single destination address compared to the packets from the multiprocessor environment to the multiple destination addresses, and (c) a third upper threshold for a normal ratio of packets from the multiprocessor environment to a single port at a single destination address compared to packets from the multiprocessor environment to the multiple destination addresses. In response to the first and second thresholds being exceeded, a specific port is monitored to determine if the third upper threshold is being exceeded at that port, thus indicating an apparent distributed denial of service attack.

Abstract: A mechanism is provided for identifying a performance bottleneck of a transaction in a transaction processing system. At a predefined time point, status information of an interaction between the transaction and a processing component among one or more processing components in the transaction processing system is collected. A duration of the interaction on the basis of the status information is determined. In response to the duration exceeding a predefined threshold, the interaction is identified as the performance bottleneck of the transaction in order to make changes to the transaction processing system thereby improving performance.

Abstract: Exemplary embodiments provide a way to manage data recovery in a distributed system having multiple data store nodes. A storage system comprises: a first node including a first processor; and a plurality of second nodes coupled to the first node, each of the plurality of second nodes including a second processor and one or more second storage devices. The first processor is configured to control to store data and replication of the data in the second storage devices of two or more second nodes. If at least one of the second nodes has failed and a storage capacity of the plurality of second nodes is below a given threshold, one of the second nodes is configured to receive a first data, which is replication of data stored in a failed second node, from another of the second nodes, and create parity data based on the received first data.
