Abstract: A system for measuring one or more physiological parameters is provided with a wearable device that includes a light source comprising a driver and a plurality of semiconductor sources that generate an output optical light. The wearable device comprises: one or more lenses to receive at least a portion of the output optical light and to deliver a lens output light to tissue, and a detection system to receive at least a portion of the lens output light reflected from the tissue and to generate an output signal having a signal-to-noise ratio, and to be synchronized to the light source. The detection system comprises at least one analog to digital converter coupled to at least one spatially separated detector. The plurality of semiconductor sources comprises six light emitting diodes, and wherein the plurality of semiconductor sources and the plurality of spatially separated detectors are located on one or more arcs.

Abstract: A device for determining the composition of a mixture of fluids that flow along a pipe includes: a radiation source for illuminating the mixture with radiation; a detector for detecting radiation that has been attenuated by the mixture; and a device for monitoring the flow rate of fluid along the pipe and outputting a signal indicative of the flow rate. The device for determining further includes a device for adjusting the intensity of radiation emitting by the radiation source in response to the signal indicative of the flow rate so that the intensity of the radiation source is reduced if the flow rate reduces.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to an infrared spectrometer comprising first and second opposing reflectors spaced apart by a spacing length, and a plurality of discrete concave reflecting facets, the reflecting facets being facets of at least one of the opposing reflectors. An infrared laser source is arranged to form a laser beam. The opposing reflectors are arranged such that the laser beam is reflected alternately from each of the opposing reflectors, including being reflected at least once by each of the reflecting facets. A detector is arranged to detect spectral properties of the laser beam after reflection from each of the plurality of reflecting facets, and an analyser then determines properties of a sample disposed between the first and second opposing reflectors from the detected spectral properties.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for measuring a fundamental mode vibrational spectrum of materials and substances in the Mid-IR spectral range of 2.5 μm to 14 μm wavelength. The light source is configured in operation to be electrically pulsed and to emit electromagnetic radiation in the wavelength range from 2.5 μm to 14 μm and with integral energy concentrating optic to provide energy for a spectral absorption process. A scanning beam splitter is positioned in an interferometer optical path with fixed angle mirrors and a thermal detector having a sensitivity to determine a maximum optical sensitivity of the system.

A passive filtration system takes whole blood and delivers plasma along with a dissolved reporter molecule to one or more spectrophotometers which can operate with narrow band optical spectrum centered on an optical detection frequency. The spectrophotometer detects the changes in absorption of the plasma as a result of a chemistry reaction to determine the concentration or activity of one or more analytes.

Abstract: An alignment device having two angular degrees of freedom is provided. The alignment device is adjustable such that it is suitable for aligning a first apparatus with respect to a second apparatus. The first apparatus may emit one or more of electromagnetic waves, acoustic waves and matter towards the second apparatus and for detection by the second apparatus. The first and second apparatuses may be disposed in a harsh environment such as is found in the vicinity of an industrial process stack. In some embodiments the first apparatus is a laser, preferably a tunable diode laser, and the second apparatus is a receiver incorporating a detector. In these embodiments the apparatuses may be used to perform laser absorption spectroscopy on a process gas flowing through an industrial process stack.
