A printing system includes plural image forming apparatuses and a print instruction apparatus connected through a communication network. The control section of the print instruction apparatus includes a database holding an apparatus information list and an apparatus managing section configured to transmit live confirming information to each of the image forming apparatuses with referring to the apparatus information list, recognize image forming apparatuses connected to the communication network based on receipt of response to the live confirming information, transmit an acquisition request of device information to an image forming apparatus selected on a screen showing a list of the recognized image forming apparatuses, and acquire the apparatus information from the selected image forming apparatus. Each image forming apparatus is configured to respond to the live confirming information without returning to a normal-power state from a power-saving state, and generate the acquired apparatus information with returning to the normal-power state.

An information processing apparatus establishes a proximity wireless link with a partner device and utilizes instantaneous interruptions of the wireless link to control processing of data transfer between the information processing apparatus and the partner device. A control unit in the information processing apparatus determines a frequency of the instantaneous interruptions of the wireless link generated within a predetermined time based on a reception state of a plurality of signals transmitted from the partner device, and controls the processing of data transfer between the information processing apparatus and the partner device according to the determined frequency of instantaneous interruptions.

The image processing system has a plurality of image reading apparatuses and an information processing apparatus. The determining unit determines whether or not usage of the memory is larger than a threshold. The selecting unit selects, if the determining unit determines that usage of the memory is larger than the threshold, a piece of image data to be transferred from among the pieces of image data stored in the memory. The specifying unit specifies a specific image forming device to which the selected piece of image data is to be transferred among the other image forming devices. The transferring unit transfers the selected piece of image data to the specific image forming device.

The multiple image processing apparatuses each comprises: a detector which detects that the operation corresponding to the target identification operation has been performed; and a transmitter which transmits to the portable terminal, the answer information and apparatus information. Then the portable terminal further comprises: a receiver which receives the answer information and the apparatus information; and an identifying portion which identifies the target image processing apparatus based on the answer information and the apparatus information.
