Abstract:
A high resolution infrared scene simulator formed by a novel combination of a photo-cathode, one or more micro-channel plates and a uniquely constructed air-bridge thermal screen. The photo-cathode is used to covert photons into electrons for insertion into the input side of the micro-channel plate. The micro-channel plate is a photo-electric device comprising a parallel array of independent channel, electron multipliers capable of high gain electron amplification. The air-bridge thermal screen comprises numerous thermally isolated thin platelets, bridges or diaphragms whose individual thermal mass and resistance are respectively low and high. Such platelets are thermally isolated and are supported on a structure that is capable of being cooled and electrically conductive.
Abstract:
An electron beam current modulator is provided between a cathode and a laser screen of a cathode-ray tube and has at least three deflecting plates positioned around, and symmetrically with respect to an optical axis of the cathode-ray tube and a diaphragm having an aperture of a regular shape. An electromagnetic control system is provided between the cathode and deflecting plates. A pickup senses position of the electron beam and produces a signal in case of an offset of the electron beam with respect to the optical axis. A video signal source is connected to a carrier generator having an output connected to an input of a phase shifter. The phase shifter has its outputs connected to the deflecting plates to rotate the cross-section of the electron beam in a plane drawn perpendicularly with respect to the optical axis. The apparatus has a control unit having an input connected to the pickup and an output connected to the electromagnetic control system.
Abstract:
A device for picking up or displaying images includes a semiconductor device having at least one cold cathode. The semiconductor device is mounted to the outside of the device for picking up or displaying images by being fixed to a support having an opening to permit the passage of electrons from the semiconductor device to the interior of the devices for picking up or displaying images. This mounting configuration offers the advantages of simple cooling of the semiconductor device, direction connection of the semiconductor device, and improved electro-optical performance.
Abstract:
A multibeam matrix array cathode ray tube having diminished rotational and focused distortion. In a multibeam cathode ray tube having a flat or planar electron beam emitter means arranged to project a two-dimensional array of beams, deflection means and stigmator correction means are provided. In addition, a novel split focus coil is provided for correcting distortion due to undesired rotation of the array of beams. By dynamically supplying opposing currents in the two halves of the split focus coil, rotational distortion may be compensated for, while adjustments are automatically made for changes of focus due to the introduction of rotational correction. Correctional currents are dynamically supplied to the split coils as a function of the matrix beam displacement on the cathode ray tube face.
Abstract:
1. A solid state storage device comprising: a luminescent screen including a continuous, crystalline, homogeneous, nongranular layer of a material consisting of one of a photoelectroluminescent phosphor and a cathodoelectroluminescent phosphor; means including a pair of electrically conducting layers in contact with opposite surfaces of said phosphor layer for establishing a unidirectional, transverse electric field therein; means directing information-containing energy upon one surface of said phosphor layer, said energy in combination with the transverse electric field being effective to produce an intensified visible light image from said screen and to form within the phosphor layer thereof a volume positive space charge latent image; and means for flooding said phosphor layer with energy less effective to produce a visible light image than said information-containing energy to cause the latent image previously formed within the phosphor layer to be displayed as a visible light image.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for forming scanned electron beam patterns which finds particular use in multiple beam cathode ray tubes. Instead of using the vertical line array of electron beam sources which is used in conventional multiple beam tubes, a two dimensional expanded beam array is provided. The expanded array is such that no two electron beams in the array are disposed in the same scan line and it is of a geometric shape having comparable length and width dimensions. In order to form characters or other patterns logic circuitry is provided to control each beam of the expanded array at respective scanning positions as the array is deflected or scanned across the screen of the cathode ray tube.
Abstract:
A multiple beam cathode ray tube having diminished off-axis aberrations and a reduced length. A tube having a flat or planar electron beam emitter means, focussing means and deflection means is provided. A novel accelerating means is provided for accelerating the emitted beams while causing them to converge towards a crossover point which is located not closer to the screen of the tube than the deflection means. The maximum off-axis distance of the beams when traversing the focussing and deflection means is reduced, and the off-axis aberrations are correspondingly diminished.
Abstract:
A direct view cathode ray storage tube utilizes a thin film electroluminescent layer as a part of the target structure so that the electron beam writes information on the phosphor layer and written areas of the phosphor layer activate corresponding areas of the electroluminescent layer so that these areas are illuminated thereby visibly displaying such information which are stored by the electroluminescent layer so long as sustain pulses are applied thereto. Selective erasure of the written displayed information can also be accomplished.
Abstract:
An evacuated envelope includes substantially parallel front and back walls with a cathodoluminescent screen on the front wall. Within the envelope, in spaced relation to the back wall and substantially parallel to the screen, it is an electron beam guide comprising a pair of spaced apart, elongated guide grids having a plurality of apertures therethrough. At one end of the beam guide is an electron beam generating and directing means which directs at least one beam of electrons between the guide grids. A shielding member is disposed between the screen and the beam guide adjacent to the electron beam generating means.
