Abstract:
In a device for the application of a metal coating on the internal surface of a hollow metal element in the form of a cylinder of revolution there is provided a sealed enclosure adapted to be placed on to said hollow element, a pumping set for generating a high vacuum in said enclosure which is provided with a hole cooperating with an orifice in said hollow element, electrically conductive elements passing through said hole of said enclosure from which they are insulated, a source of current connected to said conductive elements and a vapour emitter connected to said conductive elements and adapted to be introduced into said hollow metal element.
Abstract:
A PROCESS FOR TREATING AN ALUMINIUM COATING DEPOSITED ON SHEET-METAL SUCH AS A STEEL PLATE, SHEET OR STRIP, COMPRISING APPLYING THE ALUMINIUM COATING BY EVAPORATION UNDER VACUUM, WITH A THICKNESS LESS THAN 20 MICRONS, ONTO SHEET-METAL WHICH ADVANCES CONTINUOUSLY, SUBJECTING SYSTEMATICALLY THE ALUMINIUM COATING TO SUPERFICIAL HOT OXIDATION BY PASSING THE COATED SHEET-METAL DIRECTLY TO ATMOSPHERE WHILE ITS TEMPERATURE IS STILL 100*C. SO AS TO FORM A FILM OF ALUMINIUM OXIDE, SUBJECTING THE THUS FORMED FILM OF ALUMINIUM OXIDE TO THE ACTION OF A HOT FLUID BASED ON WATER WHILE THE SHEET-METAL IS STILL ADVANCING CONTINUOUSLY IN ORDER TO TRANSFORM THE ALUMINIUM OXIDE TO HYDRATED ALUMINIUM OXIDE.
Abstract:
A device for heating a metallic product of great length and small thickness, particularly a wire or sheet metal, by means of a flow of electrons comprises a container in which there is maintained a permanent vacuum of 10 3 to 10 5 torr. The container contains the metallic product to be heated, a means for the production of electrons which, by the action of an electrical field, are hurled onto the product, and reflecting means for returning toward the product any electrons which have escaped from said field.
Abstract:
An as-worked mild steel product is preheated to a temperature insufficient to cause recrystallization. A metallic coating is applied to the preheated surface by metallization under vacuum, and the coated product is recrystallization annealed at a temperature between 650*C and 1,000*C.
Abstract:
A process for the manufacture of a welding wire having a core of base welding steel provided with a covering of an additional element, which comprises depositing a coating of said additional element directly onto the core of base welding steel. Preferably the additional element is deposited by the method of evaporation under vacuum.
