Abstract: Systems and methods for suppressing X-ray interference in radiation portal monitors are provided. A radiation portal monitor includes a scintillator configured to convert high energy photons into low energy photons, and a photomultiplier tube (PMT) coupled to the scintillator, the PMT including a photocathode configured to convert the low energy photons into electrons, and a series of dynodes configured to cascade the electrons to facilitate detecting gamma events. The radiation portal monitor further includes an electron deflecting arrangement configured to selectively deflect the electrons before they encounter the series of dynodes.

Abstract: A detection device for detecting the presence of a substance of interest in a sample is described. The device can include a data store comprising executable instructions for at least one convolutional neural network, CNN, configured to process images: and a processor coupled to the data store and configured to execute the instructions to operate the at least one CNN. The detection device can be configured to: obtain spectrometry data, operate a first one of the CNNs to process the spectrometry data to obtain a first CNN output; apply a mask to the spectrometry data to obtain masked data; operate a second one of the CNNs to process the masked data to obtain a second CNN output; and determine if the substance of interest is present in the sample based on both the first CNN output and the second CNN output.

Abstract: Described herein are a computed tomography scanning system for inspecting an object and methods incorporating the same. The system includes an imaging assembly including a frame positioned within an underground chamber below a ground surface, a platform coupled to and translatable with respect to the frame, and a stage coupled to and rotatable with respect to the platform. The platform is translatable to raise the object above the ground surface and lower the object below the ground surface when the object is on the stage. The imaging assembly also includes an X-ray source fixed with respect to the frame and configured to emit radiation that is attenuated by the object as the platform translates and the stage rotates, and an X-ray detector fixed with respect to the frame, the X-ray detector configured to detect the radiation transmitted through the object and generate a signal representative of the transmitted radiation.

Abstract: Techniques are described for resolving and identifying peaks of signal intensity in mass chromatograms so that the peaks may be associated with components (e.g., chemical and/or ionic species) representative of an analysis sample to identify the components. The techniques facilitate correction of shift errors in the peaks of signal intensity of the mass chromatograms.
