Abstract:
The present invention provides a non-aqueous lubricant composition comprising a base stock and 5 at least 0.02 wt % of a friction reducing additive which comprises a block co-polymer of at least one block A which is an oligo- or polyester residue of a hydroxycarboxylic acid and at least one block B which is a residue of a polyalkylene glycol. The invention also provides the use of a block co-polymer of at least one block A which is an oligo- or polyester residue of a hydroxycarboxylic acid and at least one block B which is a residue of a polyalkylene glycol to reduce the kinetic co-efficient 10 of friction in a non-aqueous lubricant composition when compared to an equivalent lubricant composition comprising no block co-polymer.
Abstract:
An automotive engine oil and/or fuel comprising a base stock and an organic polymeric friction reducing additive is claimed. A method of reducing friction in an automotive engine oil and/or fuel by the addition of the organic polymeric friction reducing additive to the base stock is also claimed.
Abstract:
A coating composition for a lubricating coating film includes: (A) a phenolic resin (B) an epoxy resin having an epoxy equivalent weight of 600 to 4000; and (C) at least one type of solid lubricant. The epoxy equivalent weight is generally defined by the number average molecular weight per the number of epoxy groups in a single molecule. The coating composition has a weight ratio of component (A) to the total weight of component (A) and component (B) of at least 50 weight %. A lubricating coating film, formed from the coating composition, has a high level of flexibility on surfaces of various base materials.
Abstract:
A composition and method for reducing the coefficient of friction and required pulling force of a wire or cable are provided. A composition of aqueous emulsion is provided that is environmentally friendly, halogen free and solvent free. The composition is compatible with various types of insulating materials and may be applied after the wire or cable is cooled and also by spraying or submerging the wire or cable in a bath. The composition contains lubricating agents that provide lower coefficient of friction for wire or cable installation and continuous wire or cable surface lubrication thereafter.
Abstract:
The invention is a high molecular weight polyether polyol prepared by the reaction of one or more compounds having one or more active hydrogen compounds with one or more alkylene oxides in the presence of a catalyst comprising calcium having counterions of carbonate and a C6-10 alkanoate in a solvent or dispersant which does not contain active hydrogen atoms. The polyether polyol prepared preferably has an equivalent weight of from about 1000 to about 20,000, a polydispersity of 1.3 or less and a residual catalyst level of from about 0 to about 2000 parts per million (ppm). In another embodiment the invention is a process for preparing such high molecular weight polyether polyols. The process comprises first, contacting one or more compounds having one or more active hydrogen atoms with one or more alkylene oxides in the presence of a catalyst. The catalyst comprises calcium having counterions of carbonate and a C6-10 alkanoate in a solvent, wherein the solvent does not contain active hydrogen atoms. The mixture is exposed to conditions at which the alkylene oxides react with the compound containing more than one active hydrogen atoms such that a polyether polyol is prepared which has an equivalent weight of from about 1,000 to about 20,000, a polydispersity of about 1.3 or less and a residual catalyst level of from about 0 to about 1000 (ppm).
Abstract:
This invention concerns the use, in a cold drawing lubricating solution, as adhesive and lubricating agent, for a steel wire trimmed with brass and rubber, of an aqueous suspension comprising at least a cobalt and/or nickel salt compound of a saturated or unsaturated carboxylic acid (i), or a phosphate ester (ii), or a cobalt and/or nickel boroacylate (iii); and at least a non-ionic or anionic surfactant; the compound (i), (ii), and/or (iii)/surfactant weight ratio ranging between 0.5 and 10. The invention also concerns said suspension and preparation methods thereof. The invention further concerns a cold drawing lubricating solution comprising said suspension.
Abstract:
A surfactant composition is described. This composition is used for the emulsification of oil and water to form microemulsions. These microemulsions can be used as industrial lubricants e.g. machine tool cutting oils (although many uses are possible) and show distinct advantages over traditional neat oils or macroemulsions.
Abstract:
A water-insensitive hydraulic fluid composition comprising from about 54.5 to about 92 percent by weight of at least one borate ester, from 0 to about 20 percent by weight of a polyoxyalkylene glycol and from about 3 to about 43 percent by weight of a glycol monoether or diether diluent together with minor amounts of an alkaline buffer and an antioxidant, if desired. Such waterinsensitive hydraulic fluids are high boiling compositions suitable for use as brake fluids.

Abstract:
Compositions and methods are provided that generated a persistent low-friction coating on a solid surface, by application of a mixture of a polyethylene glycol-containing surfactant and a vegetable to the surface. The coating thus generated does not require replenishing during use and persists through rinsing and multiple uses. Surprisingly, markedly reduced friction is found when the surfactant is provided at 3% w/v to 7% w/v in the composition. Such compositions and methods are suitable for application to both mixing and separation operations. Formulation of such compositions with food grade components permits use in food processing.
