Abstract: Method for treating a metal surface (S) with a formulation (F) containing at least water (or an aqueous solvent mixture) and at least two different polymers (A) and (B). Method for treating a metal surface (S) with a formulation (F) containing at least water (or an aqueous solvent mixture) and at least two different polymers (A) and (B). (A) comprises, by weight, 50-100% monoethylenically unsaturated monomer (A1) that includes a 5-7 membered N-heterocycle with 1-3 N atoms and/or its salt, and 0-50% a second, different ethylenically unsaturated monomer (A2). (B) comprises, by weight, 50-95% monoethylenically unsaturated hydrocarbon (B1); 5-50% monoethylenically unsaturated monomer (B2) containing acid (or its anhydride or salt) groups; and 0-10% of a different ethylenically unsaturated monomer (B3). The total of (A) and (B) is at least 70wt.% of the total formulation (free of water or solvent mixture). An independent claim is included for a metal surface coated with (F).
