Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a water-soluble or a redispersible polymer having characteristics such as film-forming properties and useful as a cosmetic, etc., for hair by carrying out a radical polymerization of a specific unsaturated monomer in the presence of a specified silicone derivative and then making an ion exchanger equivalent, etc., satisfy specific conditions. SOLUTION: (A) An ethylenically unsaturated monomer is subjected to a radical polymerization in the presence of (B) a silicone containing at least one kind of a polyalkylene oxide in an amount of preferably 4-15 pts. mass based on 85-96 pts. mass of the component A to make a product of an ion exchanger equivalent IEE and a K value of the polymer satisfy K value ×IEE >=150 mmol g-1 and further make the IEE satisfy IEE>2.7 mmol g-1. The IEE is based on carboxylic acid group or carboxylate group. In the component A, preferably 40-100 mass % is composed of acrylic acid, etc., and preferably 0.5-60 mass % is composed of ethyl acrylate, etc.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To afford a specific polymer with such advantages as reduced solution viscosity and improved rinsability with invariable tonic activity by using itself as a hair setting polymer. SOLUTION: A polymer with a group of formula I [R is H or a (mutually bound) organic group; G is O or NH] is used as a hair setting polymer. It is preferable that the polymer of formula I is produced under the use of a monomer of formula II (R1 is H or CH3) (e.g. ureidomethacrylate), or comprises repeating unit of formula III; specifically, the polymer of formula I is pref. such one as to be produced by copolymerization between two kinds of monomer each bearing olefinic double bond, namely, 0.05-100 wt.% of the monomer of formula II and 0-99.95 wt.% of another copolymerizable monomer.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter aid which is used for filtering an aqueous liquid, has excellent filtration action and is suitable for a precoated filtration. SOLUTION: Such a particulate water-insoluble polymer preparation is used for the filter aid for filtering the aqueous liquid containing at least one polymer P constituted substantially of a hydrophilic polymer segment and a hydrophobic polymer segment.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a constituent readily mixable in a cosmetic composition and suitable for imparting a color to the cosmetic composition having advantages of a pigment, the so-called chemically inert behavior toward other constituents of the cosmetic composition and low solubility in water. SOLUTION: This fine dye-containing polymer PD comprises a polymer substrate containing at least one organic dye in the uniformly dispersed form.
