Abstract: PURPOSE: To equaly and stably supply the suitable quantity of lubricant onto the surface of a magnetic disk for a long time by providing a clamp mechanism for fixing the disk to a spindle motor and a mechanism for fixing a lubricant containing member and a thin film while sandwiching them between the clamp mechanism and the magnetic disk. CONSTITUTION: This device has a lubricant containing member 14 for containing and holding certain quantity of lubricant suppliable onto a magnetic disk 10 for a long time, thin film 20 for supplying the prescribed quantity of lubricant onto the magnetic disk 10 while gradually making the lubricant permeable from this lubricant containing member 14, and clamp mechanism for fixing these lubricant containing member 14 and the thin film 20 together with the magnetic disk 10. The clamp mechanism has a clamp ring 16 and a screw mechanism 18, the thin film 20 is compressed by the screw mechanism 18, which is formed at the terminal part of the clamp mechanism, and fixed onto the magnetic disk 10 and corresponding to the quantity of this compression, the quantity of lubricant to be supplied onto the surface of the magnetic disk can be controlled.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent the disk surface from deteriorating due to its contact with a head by making at least a start-stop region an inclined surface inclined to the side of its back surface in accordance with the radial direction from the inner side to the outer side. CONSTITUTION: The start-stop region 1A of the head is formed on the inner circumferential side of the surface of the disk 1, and a data storage region 1B is formed on the outer circumferential side of the region 1A. The surface of this disk 1 is made to be a truncated conical surface at a prescribed slope angle θ1 from the inner circumferential side toward the outer side over the whole range including the region 1A and the region 1B. Such a disk 1 is used to be set up in a linear actuator type hard disk device or a rotary actuator type hard disk device. By forming this shape, the head positioned in the region 1A can be given an apparent crown, and as a result, the head can quickly be floated up above the region 1A at the starting time of rotating the disk.

SOLUTION: This is a slider 3a facing the recording disk medium and supporting the data read-write head and has an air bearing surface formed between the inflow edge 10 and the outflow edge 11. It has a U shaped rail consisting of the side and cross rails 20-22 formed on the air bearing surface with its front edges positioned at the outflow edge 11 and landing pads 30a, 31a formed between the front edges of the side and cross rails 20-22 and the outflow edge 11. Of the landing pads 30a, 31a, the landing pad 31a facing close to the outer periphery of the disk is made to project at the side closer to the rail.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a head which repels water and which has improved corrosion resistance by coating at least a part of the surface of a writing element or a reading element of the head surface with a substance having low surface energy. SOLUTION: A coating as a substitute for the substrate surface is formed so as to decrease the surface energy of the substrate surface, and the coating has moisture resistance and resistance against wetting. As for the material suitable for the thin film, FCOC(fluorinated carbon compds.) are used. As for an example of RCOC, a compd. containing perfluoroalkyl polyoxyethylene ethanol is selected. The FCOC is preferable because it can be formed into a thin film as a solid and a method for its formation by dipping and drawing up or by plasma CVD can be carried out.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve durability on a landing zone surface and to prevent the life of a device from shortening by providing a control means moving an actuator arm toward an actuator lock when read/write operation is ended. SOLUTION: Plural bumps of a leather texture are formed on the landing zone 3 surface. A spindle motor 17 and a voice coil motor 9 rotating a hard disk 2 are controlled by a driver 19 to move the actuator arm 7. A head slider assembly 4 is loaded on the front end of the arm 7, and the rear end is attached pivotally to a frame of a hard disk device. An inside actuator lock 11 is loaded on the frame, and is engaged with the arm 7, and positions a read/write head onto the zone 3 to position it onto an outermost track of a data recording zone.

The movement to the inner side of the disk and the movement to the outer side thereof are repeated in the outer peripheral part after the track following in the outer peripheral part of the disk. The velocity Vout of the outer side moving is set larger than the velocity Vin of the inner side moving, more preferably at about several times.

Abstract: To select suitable materials for highly corrosion resistant coating, and to form magnetic head coating in thin films of suitable thickness, in order to improve corrosion resistance of magnetic heads in HDDs and secure reliability of HDDs. At least parts of surfaces of write element or read element of the surface of the magnetic head are coated with low surface energy materials. Therefore, these coated surfaces do not easily attract water due to their humidity resistance, wetting resistance and hydrophobicity, resulting in improvement of corrosion resistance of these coated surfaces. As particular evaluation, surface energy values of water and low surface energy materials are determined. Then, as low surface energy materials FCOC (fluorocarbon compounds), and especially materials containing perfluoroalkylpolyoxyethyleneethanol are selected. Particular surface energy values of selected materials are also determined. Further, in forming thin films of low surface energy materials on magnetic heads, their preferable thickness is selected to be 5 - 100 Ñ, 10 - 20 Ñ being more preferable.
