Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a head slider from accidentally landing. SOLUTION: The head slider provided with a transducer head is mounted on a head arm of the head mechanism and loaded on a disk by the turning of the head arm and also unloaded to the retreating position out of the disk from on the disk. A shock sensor is provided for sensing the shock received by the head mechanism from the outside. The loading operation of the head slider is started at a step S2, and when the shock is sensed at a step S3 during the loading operation, the loading is stopped at a step S5 and the unloading is carried out at a step S6 to return the head slider to the retreating position. When the unloading operation at the step S6 is finished, the head slider is returned to the step S2 and the reloading is started.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To significantly reduce the time required for separation, by oscillating either a spindle motor or a voice coil motor at a resonance frequency found in a first mode, and separating a head/slider assembly sticking in a second mode from the surface of a magnetic recording disk. SOLUTION: When a disk 1 alternately moves in a direction 19 and a direction 20, the resonance frequency of a mechanical system is found by detecting a back electromotive force induced by a VCM 11. Oscillation or vibration of the disk 1 is obtained by applying an alternate driving pulse to a spindle motor, and a frequency range for oscillating the spindle motor is predetermined by estimating this frequency range in which the resonance frequency exists on the basis of experiential knowledge. At the resonance frequency, the quantities of movement +M1 and -M1 in directions perpendicular to the direction of radius 22 of the disk 1 become maximum, and a head/slider assembly which is being stuck can be separated from the surface of the magnetic recording disk.
