Abstract:
A molecular manipulation system for investigating molecules, having a sample holder constructed to hold a sample comprising a plurality of molecules attached on one side to a surface in the sample holder and on another side attached to a microbead of a plurality of microbeads. The system having; an acoustic wave generator to generate an acoustic wave exerting a force on the microbeads in the sample; anda detector device to detect a response of the plurality of microbeads in the sample on the force exerted by the acoustic wave to investigate the molecules attached to the microbeads.
Abstract:
The present disclosure concerns a method and system for imaging a molecular strand (MS). The method comprises providing a sample volume (SV) comprising the strand (MS); providing an excitation beam (EB) having an excitation focus (EF) in the sample volume (SV); scanning the excitation focus (EF) in the sample volume (SV) along a one dimensional scanning line (SL); trapping an end of the strand (MS) in the sample volume (SV) and extending the strand (MS) along a one-dimensional trapping line (LL) parallel to the scanning line (SL); aligning the trapping line (LL) to coincide with the scanning line (SL) to have the scanning excitation focus (EF) coincide with the strand (MS); and recording the fluorescence response (FR) as a function of a plurality of distinct scanning positions (X0) of the excitation focus (EF) along the scanning line (SL).

Abstract:
The invention relates to treatments for cognitive decline and/or memory impairment based on reducing the extracellular matrix in the hippocampus. Improved compositions are provided for such treatments. The invention also relates to detection methods for the early diagnosis of cognitive decline and/or memory impairment based on an increase in extracellular matrix in the hippocampus. The treatments and diagnostic methods are especially useful in the field of Alzheimer's disease.
Abstract:
The invention relates to amicroscopic imaging apparatus to provide an image of a sample. The apparatus having an illumination system to provide an illumination beam with radiation;and a sensor constructed and arranged to receive: a first image of a first diffraction pattern created by diffraction of the illumination beam on the sample; a second image of a second diffraction pattern created by diffraction of the illumination beam on the sample. The sensor may be connected with a processor running a program to retrieve phase information from the sample from the first and second image received by the sensor. The illumination system may have a first illumination device to provide the illumination beam with radiation of substantially a first wavelength; and a second illumination device to provide the illumination beam with radiation of substantially a second wavelength different than the first wavelength. The sensor may receive a first image of a first diffraction pattern created by diffraction of the illumination beam with radiation of substantially the first wavelength on the sample; and,a second image of a second diffraction pattern created by diffraction of the illumination beam with radiation of substantially the second wavelength on the sample.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an in vitro method for diagnosis and/or determining severity of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. The method determines presence and/or quantity of at least one EBV marker, preferably EBV-EBER and/or antibody against EBV antigen, in a sample obtained from a subject. The method may further be used to discriminate between Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a compound according to formula (1) wherein R 2 is fluorine, X is nitrogen or carbon and R 3 is an organic group. The invention is also directed to the use of this compound as a precursor for the preparation of a 11 C or 18 F-radio labelled compound. The radio labelled compound may be used in an in vivo diagnostic or imaging method.
Abstract:
The invention relates to the use of sphingosine based compounds, in particular phytosphingosine compounds, in the protection of hydroxyapatite containing materials such as teeth and bone. Such compounds are especially useful in the treatment and prevention of dental caries, dental erosion, dentine hypersensitivity and tartar (dental calculus) formation. Methods and devices are also provided for preventing biofilm formation using sphingosine based compounds. Compositions comprising sphingosine based compounds are also provided.
