    Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the production of adhesive-free, reduced-migration and reduced-yellowing coatings, in particular Foliendeckstrichen. Inventive coating materials containing less than 0.1 weight % of a photoinitiator and even in the absence of a photoinitiator can be hardened by exposure to UV-radiation, if the coating materials contain (meth)acrylate groups (A) and >CH-O-ether structure units (B) in certain minimum amounts, whereby (A) and (B) can also be accommodated in one molecule or in different molecules. The method exhibits many economic, technical and toxicological advantages due to said reduction of the amount of photoinitiators or the absence of photoinitiators.

    Abstract: UV- and heat-curable aqueous polyurethane dispersion based on aliphatic polyisocyanates and low-mol. wt. aliphatic compounds with at least 2 hydroxyl, mercapto or amino groups also contains compounds with NCO-reactive groups and UV-polymerizable double bonds, carboxylic or sulfonic acids with NCO-reactive groups and an isocyanate blocking agent. UV- and heat-curable aqueous polyurethane dispersions (PD), essentially comprising: (a) aliphatic polyisocyanates with an NCO functionality of 2-4.5, (b) compounds with isocyanate-reactive group(s) and C=C double bond(s) which can be polymerized with UV in presence of a photoinitiator, (c) aliphatic compounds with a mol. wt. of less than 500 and at least 2 isocyanate-reactive hydroxyl, mercapto or prim. and/or sec. amino groups, (d) compounds with isocyanate-reactive group(s) and carboxylic or sulfonic acid group(s), (e) a basic compound for at least partial neutralization of the acid groups in (d), (f) an isocyanate blocking agent (f1) with a deblocking temperature of 70-160 deg C or an added low-mol. wt. compound (f2) with blocked isocyanate groups, and (g) optionally compounds other than (b-f) with only one isocyanate-reactive group. Dispersions (PD) are obtained by reacting (a) with (b) and (c) using a stoichiometric excess of NCO groups over OH groups and with sufficient (d) and (e) for good dispersibility in aqueous media, and then introducing blocked isocyanate groups by reaction with (f1) or by addition of (f2) containing (b) as additive.

    Abstract: The invention relates to plates having a decorative surface which are produced by: (i) impregnating a supporting material, e.g. a paper sheet; with a mixture (A) of an aqueous solution or an aqueous dispersion of a thermally hardenable melamine formaldehyde resin (A1) with a radiation-hardenable acrylate resin (A2), e.g. a urethane polyester and/or polyether acrylate, which can be diluted with water and/or which can be dispersed in water; (ii) coating the dried impregnated supporting material with a covering lacquer consisting of a mixture (B) that contains a radiation-hardenable acrylate resin (B1), e.g. a urethane acrylate as well as a thermally hardenable etherified melamine formaldehyde resin (B2), and; (iii) radiation-hardening and successively compacting the supporting material that is impregnated and provided with a covering lacquer. During processing, the employed coating system exhibits, in addition to good pot lives, a particularly good adhesiveness between the covering lacquer layers and the impregnated supporting materials.

    Abstract: A crosslinking reaction is initiated in a reactive paint formulation. This is coated-onto a surface at least locally, before reaction is completed. Independent claims are included for equipment carrying out the process, and for the coating so produced. The equipment employs a sprayer and/or electrostatic applicator with bell housing. Preferred features: Initiation of reaction preferably employs UV illumination (1), in conjunction with at least one photoinitiator in the formulation. Kinetics of the reaction are controlled by temperature variation, and/or by use of a sufficiently slowly-running reaction, especially a cationic polymerization, and/or by spatial separation of photoinitiator(s) from the formulation components and/or by minimizing reactivity of the photoinitiator(s). Spatial separation cited, is by nano-structuring of the paint formulation. Further stages include mixing a UV protection agent and/or pigment into the formulation before coating. A hand spray gun (6) applies the paint. In the equipment, optical fibers (3, 4) transmit UV light to the paint formulation.
