    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a new trimethylolalkane derivative producible in high purity without using formaldehyde undesirable to use from the safety point of view, exhibiting extremely excellent lubricity, easily and uniformly dispersible in water and useful as a base, emulsifier, lubricant, etc., for cosmetics, etc. CONSTITUTION:The trimethylolalkane derivative of formula I [n is integer of 0-4; A to A are H, -CH2CH(OH)CH2OR or group of formula II (R is 16-36C branched alkyl) provided that A to A are not H at the same time], e.g. monoether compound of trimethylol-propane glyceryl isostearyl ether. The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a trimethylolalkane of formula III with a glycidyl ether of formula IV in an organic solvent in the presence of a basic catalyst.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a detergent composition for washing body, hair or dishes, which is less irritative to skin and improved in foaming property as well as low-temperature stability by adding fructoside. CONSTITUTION:A detergent composition is obtained by adding a fructoside (preferably one represented by the formula, wherein R is 6-24C alkyl or alkenyl), which is effective as a non-ionic surfactant. Fructoside, which is obtained by allowing sucrose and a long-chain alcohol to react, is high in purity and improved in hue and low-temperature stability. A detergent composition containing such fructoside is less irritative to skin, light to the touch, and improved in foaming power, foam stability and low-temperature stability, and therefore, effective as an agent for washing skin, hair or dishes.

Thus, the objective alkylglycoside useful as a surfactant low in skin irritativity, a foam stabilizer for anionic surfactants, and the like is obtained in an improved yield.
