Abstract: Partially crosslinked plastic compositions having a melt flow index of from 0.1 to 100 g/10 min, at 230 DEG C and under a weight of 2.16 kg, comprising a) a polymer comprising from 25 to 97 % by weight of a propylene homopolymer, and from 3 to 75 % by weight of a propylene copolymer containing copolymerized C2-C10-alk-1-enes, where the comonomer content is from 15 to 80 % by weight, based on the latter component, and b) a metal compound of one of the formulae (Ia) and (Ib) below: where R is hydrogen or a C1-C4-alkyl group, M1 is a metal from main group II of the Periodic Table or zinc, and M2 is boron or aluminium, obtainable by reacting the polymer a) with the compound b) at temperatures of from 180 to 280 DEG C, pressures of from 1 to 100 bar and mean residence times of the reaction mixture of from 0.2 to 10 minutes.

Abstract: Process for the recovery of copper from the effluent of poly(phenylene ether) synthesis, which includes in a first step the oxidative linking of phenols to oxygen in the presence of a copper-amine catalyst in organic solvents and, in a second step, the separation of the catalyst with the aid of aqueous solutions of complexing agents and/or cation exchange resins, characterized in that the effluent from the catalyst separation step is treated at a pH of 4 to 14 with a compound of the general formula I in which R and R are hydrogen, C1-C20-alkyl, an aryl, alkylaryl or aralkyl group having up to 20 C atoms and R is hydrogen, ammonium, sodium or potassium, and then separating off the resulting precipitate.

Impact-resistant styrene copolymers are produced by polymerization of styrene and acrylonitrile in the presence of a homopolymer and/or copolymer of butadiene, wherein at least 40% but less than 100% by weight of the acrylonitrile used is not added until after the homogeneous rubber-monomer phase has formed a disperse phase. The polymerization may be carried out in solution or in bulk, either entirely or until formation of the disperse phase, after which the polymerization may be completed in suspension in an aqueous medium. In the examples, (1) a solution of polybutadiene in styrene and acrylonitrile is polymerized to form a prepolymer, to which are added acrylonitrile and styrene before completion of polymerization in an aqueous medium, (4) a solution of a butadiene-styrene rubber, styrene and acrylonitrile is polymerized as in Example 1, (7) a solution of polybutadiene in styrene, acrylonitrile and ethyl benzene is polymerized continuously in a series of three vessels, acrylonitrile being pumped into the third vessel, (9) a solution of a stereospecific butadiene-styrene rubber in styrene, acrylonitrile and isopropylbenzene is polymerized continuously in a series of five reactors, additional acrylonitrile being supplied to reactors 2 and 3, and (11) the process of Example 9 is repeated, except that the rubber is polybutadiene.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a mixing apparatus at least composed of a screw-based machine S 1 and a screw-based machine S 2 , where S 1 has heating equipment, at least in the plasticizing and homogenizing zone, and where the outlet from S 2 has been connected to the screw-containing barrel of S 1 , within the plasticizing or homogenizing zone of S 1 , a substantive feature of which is that the connection between S 1 and S 2 is brought about by a connector which has cooling equipment effective as far as the inner wall of the screw-containing barrel of S 1 , and to a process for preparing thermoplastically processable molding compositions, in particular additive masterbatches, from at least one thermoplastic component C 1 and at least one component C 2 , where the melting point or decomposition temperature T M C2 of C 2 is lower, by at least about 50° C., than the temperature T H C1 , which is the lower limit of the thermoforming range of C 1 , and where most of C 2 is melted only after contact with C 1.
