Abstract: Aq. solns. contg. 10-80% of 2-4C percarboxylic acids (pref. peracetic acid) are extracted with a carboxylic acid ester contg. 4-20C and the extract dehydrated by azeotropic distn. under vacuum, opt. with addn. of a carboxylic acid ester boiling at a lower temp. than the percarboxylic acid. The process is easily controllable, safe and economical. The oxidn. of the solvent is negligible.

Abstract: The invention relates to monoclinic zirconium oxide having an SiO2 content of less than 1% by weight, which is characterised by dendrite-shaped particles having a mean grain size (d50 value) in the range from 0.5 mu m to 3.0 mu m and a specific surface area (BET) in the range from 3 to 15 m /g. The zirconium oxide is prepared by thermal cracking of zirconium silicate in a high-frequency or medium-frequency inductive fusion furnace with a sinter crust crucible, quenching of the melt by blowing air onto a melt jet and/or spraying the latter with water and leaching the thermally cracked zirconium silicate with concentrated alkali metal hydroxide solution at 100 to 200 DEG C. The zirconium oxides according to the invention is distinguished from prior zirconium oxide by its improved suitability for the production of zirconium silicate colouring materials of the host lattice and inclusion types - pigments of higher colour intensity are obtained.

Abstract: Pressed titanium dioxide is produced by intensively mixing pyrogenically prepared titanium dioxide in the presence of deionised water with a humectant and/or a base and/or, if appropriate, a binder and/or, if appropriate, a forming aid and/or, if appropriate, a pore former, extruding the resulting mass at pressures of between 5 and 100 bar to give mouldings, drying the mouldings at temperatures between 50 and 120 DEG C and then calcining them for 1 to 5 hours in ambient air at temperatures from 400 to 700 DEG C.

Abstract: N,N'-disubstituted or N,N,N'- or N,N',N'-trisubstituted thioureas with additional organyloxysilyl function and tertiary amine function of the general formula These compounds are prepared as follows: a) Aminoorganylsilanes of the general formula are reacted in an organic, inert solvent with carbon disulfide, b) The dithiocarbamates formed thereby having the general formula: are isolated and combined with at least the equimolar amount of an amino compound of the general formula H2N-(CH2)n-NR32, this mixture is heated until the reaction is completed and the desired product is subsequently isolated.

Abstract: A process for the dismutation of chlorosilanes is disclosed in which the latter are in the gas phase for 0.01-100 sec. at 55 DEG -100 DEG C. or in the liquid phase for 1-1000 sec. at 25 DEG -55 DEG C. conducted in the presence of a catalyst, which is either unformed or is present in the form of spherical pellets, and which consists of one of four different organopolysiloxane compounds, optionally cross-linked, which essentially carry an amino or ammonium group as a functional group.
